I would advise against running new pads on the beat up old rotors. The wear on the rotors can cause uneven wear on the new pads.

Ok, thanks for that information - sorry you had to be the one to find that out but you probably just saved quite a few people from doing the same. Which Saab did you order the rotors for?
(I'll edit the original post later, posting this from my iPhone in an area with bad reception - it's like being on dialup lol) I DID make a error in my last post that I will correct now. If the dime goes into the groove less than to what's his names head don't worry about it. If it goes BEYOND his head TURN the rotor. The following link explains it better than I did. Please excuse my error. The link will give you some good info on brakes. Both the myths and facts. http://www.procutinternational.com/supplier_gm.aspx |
How do you stick a dime in the groove.
I would think there is a square peg round hole problem there. |

I used the rotors from all the 9-3 Saabs. They are the same diameter and bolt pattern but not deep enough to sit correctly. I don't think mine can be turned because there is a very tall lip on the outer edge inside and out. The lip is tall enough to lay the dime on it side and not be able to slide it off. They have worn about the height of a dime on its side. This a temporary solution until rotors can be purchased. |
Can you park the car until you get new rotors?

whats the difference with the front hawk pads? which are better for daily driving?
|
The HP Plus is kind of aggressive based on all of the reviews. The HPS (HP Street) is the best pick for daily driving. I plan to go with HPS on all 4 corners for my other cars. I couldn't find them for the front of my SS/TC so I'll keep the Ferodos for now.

i have a question I have an 06 cobalt SS non supercharged. i have a set of awesome drilled slotted rotors and high performance brakes. I am purchasing the 09 turbocharged on friday. My question is will the rotors and brakes fit the 09 from my 06 or am i just S.O.L and have to buy new ones? Are the Brembro set that comes on the turbos really that bad? I know i had to replace the brakes and rotors off my 06 SS within the 1st few months. Thanks

I went to the Autozone website and typed in the part number (1033) for the rear pads and they look nothing like whats on my car. The pads I ended up getting were 1095's and they look like whats on it. I won't be able to take them apart until tomorrow to see if their right.

Hahaha...so you purchased brake pads based on the picture from the website? I wouldn't want to be driving your car after these are installed...

Not to burst your bubble but I've been working on cars for over 8 years so I know what I'm doing. I saw both numbers in person and unless they were boxed wrong, the 1033's looked nothing like whats on my car.

That may be...but couldn't they have put the wrong pictures on the website?

According to the OP, the rear pads off of a Solstice will work and the number I've been seeing for the pads are 1095's.
