from g8 gt to ss turbo sedan should do it
Hi All, new to forum. I am seriously thinking of trading in my 2008 g8 gt for payoff ($19,000) with 40,000 miles and purchasing a 2009 ss turbo sedan with only 3,000 miles for $18,000. I've had the G8 for two year now and although I love the car,but I am concerned about expensive mechanical issues and maintenance parts that are not in stock as the mileage creep up and Iam also getting that itch for something different. I am looking for a real sleeper to play wiith. What do guys think, is the ss a good fun daily driver sleeper and any issues for daily driving. Thanks.

Personally, I'd try to find any way possible to keep the G8 GT because with Pontiac no longer in existence, the car might be worth quite a bit in the future, but then again, if it's your only vehicle, the mileage will continue to creep up until the car is worthless.
With that said, I've got a Cobalt SS Turbo coupe that has been highly reliable, even with 83k miles on odometer now. I can only imagine that the SS sedan you're looking at with 3k miles will be just as good, assuming the previous owner didn't do anything stupid to it.

I think I'd rather have the g8. Better looking car imo. Got more room. And unless you are going to keep the car for many more years parts are still out there from GM.
I haven't had any issues with my cobalt though and the better mileage is nice.

Wow ! 3K !!
I really liked the G8's, but wanted a manual tranny. The only way to go that route was the G8 GXP, which was 40 something K and beyond my price range.
I liked the Cobalt SS Sedan from the time I laid eyes on it at the auto show, and knew that was what I wanted when I decided to buy a Balt.
I like the size of the G8 better than the Balt, and the RWD , but ...
I suspect that you will find that the Balt out handles your G8, and gets better mileage, and even if still stock will keep up with or beat the G8.
Add the Stage 1 kit to the Balt, and bye bye G8 !
I guess it is one od those that it depends - on how many people you routinely cart around and how the Balt fits your butt.
I have been happy with mine.
Good Luck either way !

Thanks for the responses. I am going to go for it. The G8 has held on to its value but as mentioned as I keep driving it, value would drop considerably in the long run and the g8 is not that easy to get parts and work on. Thanks for everything and I will return once I get the SS.

Haha .... I agree ..... but maybe because we have already had a SS and would like to move over to something different 8) .
If I hadn't bought a Cobalt ..... I would prolly own a G8.....I was looking at both when I decided to go with the Cobalt .

I'd keep the G8 all day long. Better built car reliability wise. I don't understand why you're worried about parts being hard to find, the car will be very reliable as long as you take care of it, plus you have a 5 year/100k mile warranty.
The G8 is more practical, a little worse gas mileage, but has much more space. Not to mention it's a much better platform if you want to make power down the road.
If you're dead set on getting the CSS, you won't be disappointed. A tune really wakes the car up and you don't have to sacrifice gas mileage for speed.

The g8 is just a better car but of course it cost more too.

I understand that the g8 may be a better platform and more roomy, I've had the car for 2 years now and now want something else within reason to play with. and considering that the g8 is 40,000 miles and the ss is only 3,000 sweetens the pot a whole alot. Also, the the g8 will need new tires soon ($900) and brakes (still on originals), I figured now is the time to make a decission. Again, thanks for commenting.
I am really set on a sedan, but thanks.

I just bought the cobalt, it has only 2,510 miles, the car brand new. the manual takes alot of getting used to get the groove back, but I love the car. you can pretty much eat off the undercarriage, its so clean.
