gauges!!!

I would like to put some gauges in the car finally. I have been debating this for a while. The thing that i was wondering was how much of a pain is it to hook these up. I am really not sure what gauges i want.

I am also going to keep the stock boost gauge in the car. just looking for some ideas.

thanks
mike

I have a AEM's voltmeter, a/f ratio and boost gauges and none of them were difficult to install. the voltmeter gauge you just have to run power to it and it displays the voltage. A/F ratio as long as the bung is already welded on your downpipe running it is simple. The hardest part of all this is running it through the firewall and up through the dash to the pillar. The boost gauge wasn't any harder than the A/F ratio gauge...

I don't know anything about the interceptor gauges though...sorry man

I have the Dual Aeroforce Scan guages. They work great, look good, and only took about an hour to hook up. You would also need a pillar like ZZP sells to mount them in. Dont buy a cheap pillar.

no

I dont have a pic, lol. I have the stock boost guage in the stock boost guage spot and the aeroforce gauge in the new spot. electrical tape wrapped around the stock boost gauge does wonders for fitment issues Since there is no mount on the ZZP A-Pillar for the stock gauge.

not to thread jack, but i plan on getting an intrerceptor, they sound like they help alot, and just recently gotten the zzp dwonpipe with the xtra wideband bung. couple of questions.

1) i plan on getting the triple gauge pod from ottp, will the stock boost gauge fit fine

2) is there really anything special about getting 2 interceptors (they are having a sale on ottp for the duals)

3) how do the interceptors hook up? and i guess i need another o2 sensor for the dp right.

1.)yes it should
2.)the main resone why people get more than 1, is because they want to look at diffrent things at once. they can rotate to let you see diffrent things like knock retard, injector duty cicle ect... its just giving u more room to look at more stuff.
3.) you plug it into your obd 2. like if you ever got a check engine light and you take it somwhere to get it scanned to see what it is. that where the plug goes. its a pretty cool setup! and no cause if your wanting to get your air fuel ratio you have to buy the sensor for that gauge. if you do end up buying that extra pieace then yes u will. but if your just planning on get the gauges then no.

I think it can read AFR without having to install a aftermarket wideband because the car comes with a wideband sensor stock.

1) it will fit fine but there is nothing to mount it too, the stock gauge uses to screws and they through to plastic fittings on the stock A-Pillar that the ZZP one doesnt seem to have. Wrapping 1 layer thick of electrical tape around the part that slides into the opening will be enough to hold it firmly in there. It wont rotate or slide out.

2) If you get two interceptors you can read 4 parameters at once, both the interceptors will be able to view all the same parameters but you can see 4 at once with two. One interceptor can cycle through 4 sets of 2 parameters in a given length of time.
Warning: You cant buy one interceptor and then buy a second one. They have a special split pigtail that allows you to serial link them with the dual or triple interceptor. (meaning you cant buy 3 single interceptors and use all 3 of them.)

3) The interceptor plugs into the OBDII port by your left knee. you can't miss it, its plain as day. You can run the interceptor cable up through the bottom of the dash by your feet and into the A-pillar. There is a how to section somewhere in this site. You do not need an O2 sensor to sense A/F ratio. There is a factory wide band already installed in the car. The interceptor can read A/R ratio through the OBDII port.

The two parameters I leave it on now are A/F ratio and CMD A/F

i have the zzp triple a pillar with dual interceptors and the stock boost gauge and i love it all. the interceptors were incredibly easy to hook up. i just had to trip a little of the pillar with a razor knife to make one of the gauges fit well, i think it was the middle pod. took me all of 45 min to install. and that was with a break to have a smoke and drink some beer haha.

I wish people would stop saying this. It comes up each time someone asks about the interceptors. The earlier cobaltSS's (supercharged) need the extra sensor. Our cars have a STOCK WB02 SENSOR. Of course saying this wont matter, next time this comes up someone with no clue will chime in and say you need it.

BTW - if you are curious what dual interceptors looks like or what they monitor, check my post here - https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/show...15&postcount=9

I was one of the first 08 SS' to install them - I went to Aeroforce directly (who told me they hadn't sold any direct to 08 ss' at that time) and they gave me a semi-sponsorship deal.

Dont know what the price is retail - like I said I got it in a semi-sponsorship for testing them - got both for around $200.

That screw spot is where the stock pillar screws in - there is a nylon nut behind there in the metal frame of the car. I didnt have anything around that fit until I found that 2.5" drywall screw lol. It was perfect, however I need something that is a little more finished looking.

zzp's pillar is a replacement aswell as the cobalt addiction ones. those are your best bet.zzp is the closest to the original though.
