Gear whine?
Gear whine?
I've been hearing this faint whining noise while coasting in gear, particularly in 2nd and 3rd... I'll be on the throttle and let off around 3k rpm, then it starts. It disappears when I get back into the throttle.
I'm assuming this is normal enough, but I figured I'd double check here. Any insight?
Next, my sunroof gives off a nasty rattle when it's open... Another common Cobalt problem I'm guessing?
Thanks in advance.

Well I retract my initial post...I've started to notice a tiny bit of whine, and I agree, it doesn't seem like a problem at all.
However, just yesterday something started to happen which really does have me concerned. When the car is cold and I hit a dip in the road, a sound comes from pretty much right under the shifter (perhaps a bit more towards the front of the car). First I thought I had scraped my chinspoiler or something, even though I had driven over that particular bump for years with no problems...but then it did it again on a much smaller bump, so I knew I wasn't scraping. Peeking under the car later confirmed that I didn't scrape. It's happened a couple times since then, but most of the time I had the radio on so I didn't hear it very clearly. One time though, I did catch it with the radio off, and it almost sounded like the transmission was grinding! The sound came from below the shifter, maybe a little bit closer to the front of the car (not exactly where the transmission is though...), and sounded pretty similar to how it sounds if you grind gears. The thing is, I wasn't shifting when the sound happened...I was completely in gear and just driving down the road.
I'm trying to pinpoint the noise a little better, and then I'll see about taking it in to have it looked at. I want to try to hear it more clearly a few more times. Also, it only seems to happen when the car isn't warmed up all the way.
