Rims

27'th,

Sounds like you have some behind the scenes knowledge about the car. What is the story on the rims? The rims in the test mule pic's are awesome - are they going to be available?

In the autoblog, they say that wheel hop and torque steer has been reduced greatly, due to the changes they have made to the FE5 suspension.

And I think we would all like to know about the Vette style rims.

A different shifter arrangement... hmm .. sounds like a "crappier" shifter arangement. I hope it won't look like this:

You're probably right. The HHR SS has a 4 speed auto (with only 235 horsepower) so if there's a Cobalt SS Automatic, that's probably what we'll get, too.

But I am glad its been finally announced to stop the insanity of rumors and speculation.
Can`t wait to get to drive one in the spring.

HA!! 500hp on this motor can't be done with just a 35R, you're gonna need a GT4082 because of the way this motor flows. You're also gonna need a ported shroud, and a relatively low turbine A/R. But that is an entirely different story, because you will need different injectors (stock max 27-28psi) and those bad boys are gonna cost a pretty penny. But understand, for 500hp, you will be running around 40psi!! I wouldn't want to be the one to find out if those cast aluminum pistons would be able to take 40psi.

Definately!! This thing will turn on a friggin dime!

Sorry I just had to post this...gosh darn it, they're making it white!!!!! UGH! That will uber sexalicious. Now I gotta keep my balt silver, I was gunna paint it white to be unique. No more on that. This car its going to be nice, I still want to know about switching out the head of the LNF and putting it on the LSJ, if its possible with the DI and all. It looks kind of un sport IMO, but I sure as hell want that front grill and I may do some interior switches with the SS/tC. Glad GM is keeping the car, good luck to all the people buying this car, and remember, we're all balts, no tc vs sc stuff. Keep the balt love goin!

Alot of the interior descriptions were worded around the fact the Cobalt SS technically doesnt exist in 08 . So stuff like the guages , the shifter ect. are being described as different or upgraded compared to the 08 Cobalt Sport , but really the same as always . The front seats and the bolstered rear seats are brand new and thats basically it .

From the newest press release (How many releases will Chevy make??)

Engineered to offer more than merely a turbocharged rush of power, an all-new FE5 Sport suspension was developed and includes specific stabilizer bars, spring rates and damper tuning – all designed to complement the high-output turbocharged powertrain and mitigate afflictions such as torque steer. Driver-selectable modes help maximize performance whether on the street or track.

Hmmm... "Driver Selectable"?? Will this be a switch to defeat the Stabilitrak and simultaneously tune the suspension, or it is a wrench mod that should be made say before you hit the track?? Also, gotta love that the torque steer is mitigated. I'll miss it though...

Anyone notice that Chevy's statement said the '08 Turbo 'Balt won't be released until the 2nd quarter of 2008?

That actually makes it a 2008.5.

Look at the new SRT-4. It's also an '08 model but it will be rolling down the assembly lines in about a month or so.

A Switch . Normal , Sport and off . You can completely turn off the stabilitrak in the Cobalt SS . ITs controlled thru the info center . Stabilitrak works thru the ABS and traction control at each individual wheel , not the suspension .

Engine calibration and stability control changes via the Driver Information Center...

stabilitrack is not what you think. It tries to prevent you from getting into trouble. It might have an off switch. It's not a driver selectable suspension setting gizmo.

I see in the SEMA pics those tires are Continentals, probably ContiSportContact 2s. I say swap those for the Bridestone RE050s or the Michelin PS2s.

Which "LNF Balt" are you referring too? The actual LNF with teh 5 twin spoke wheels that aren't avaiable yet? Or the one shown on this page with those disgusting polished rims?
