my car is a 2008 ss/tc.
i got a cel last week and next day my check gas cap indicator went off. so i tightened the gas cap and went about my business for the next couple of days waiting for it to clear. i know it takes a certain amount of starts to clear the code but im not sure of the exact number. anyway i checked the codes today and it was p0496 p0497 p0455. evap emiosions system leak deected, evap emissions system low purge, evap emissions system high purge respectively. are these all codes from the gas cap being loose? or could they be something else?

To start, clear them and see if they come back.

 

I don't have any thing to clear them with. Can I just unhook the battery? Don't the codes clear after a certain amount of starts anyway?

 

Blow through the evap purge solenoid. It should not allow any air to pass. It's a very common problem and a cheap fix...

 

I have done that in the past and it didn't go through. I can try it again when I get a second. Thanks

 

go to any parts store, use their code reader, delete codes, done. evap is dumb. i unplugged mine and my car runs/ran better

 

What does the evap purge solenoid do anyway?
