Guys at dealership don't know ANYTHING :)
What voids the warranty? and how long would you guys think i'd need to keep it....
The guy i'm NOT buying my car from told me that anything, even an intake will void the warranty for the engine, and he told me any different kind of rim other than GM rims would void it... But he couldn't answer my questions about my 2-way alarm/remote start system... first he tried to argue with me saying it wouldn't work. like dude, it works on my truck and it's a manual lmao, he couldn't tell me what it affected on the warranty... he couldn't even tell me if an audio/video system would affect it. and the hole time he was being a dick.
and i know the car should be broken in properly before performance mods but. u kno... me no wanna wait lol...
i don't think a system would void anything serious... but my remote start gizmo might void it for the engine...
Any one know?
Car has been sitting on the lot for "4 or 5 months", i just assumed that it'd be safe not to do anything at all to it until after six months if everything is going to affect the warranty, just to make shur the car is gonna work right...

dispite the rumors to the contrary, if you do something like an intake, exhaust, etc, you run the risk of having warranty issues. same with different wheels/tires.
the magnuson act is about aftermarket parts in the sense that you're allowed to use a FRAM air filter, as opposed to a AC DELCO, but it does NOT NOT NOT cover you if you modify the car in some way.
same is true with a remote start. it's not a GM part, so if it causes issues, it's your problem, esp cause it's not supposed to be used in standard shift cars.

all that shouldnt void the warrenty the place i bought my bolt from dont really care unless i start messing the internals of the engine or mess with the computer but anything else goes
language in the title please

Basically, they can't really claim that the rims on the car voided your warranty if like your synchros go on first gear for example. But the intake will void the engine warranty, because you wouldbe leaning out the stock tune, etc (just their arguement, not taking sides). A remote start system clearly wont void anything just by having it installed. But any electrical issues, yo ucan bet they will blame THAT first. That's why I had the dealer install their own starter on mine haha. But unfortunately, they are very picky about warranty.

hmm, reply didn't post...
well they main thing with the remote start is i can crank it when i get up in the morning and it'll be warmed up when i get out to it...
the guys i bout the compustar system from told me for the cobalt i'd have to buy some computer by pass thingy so it'd work right... which is cool... but, hmm. ger. idk.
i wonder if they would try to blame an electrical problem on a system if i had one in it...
my dad has an amazing mechanic that can fix the car if sumthin happened but i hate to make him do that for free ha ha.
what's a normal break in period for these things? like 3k? or 5k?

FYI, even the Magnusson Moss act will not cover you if the aftermarket filter could be shown deficient in its design. Fram's oil filter isn't made the same as the OEM AC Delco/German oil filter. The air filter is probably OK as long as the seal was made properly and there is some type of reinforcement for the filter media.
um, how important is the Limited Slip...
i found the car i looked at on the dealer site and it doesn't have the LSD...
hmm. i'm kinda turned off on it now... it's black, and it doesn't have LSD... ... and the guy lied to me and told me it did...

I read a few SAE reports on this topic and the LSD for FWD isn't as important for take-off acceleration. It shines when you're on a road course though. I'd say get one with the LSD since it will cost you 2-3 times more to do it later on. The factory option makes a lot of financial sense.
yeah i figured lsd.. i mean its 400 bucks... i'm getting into the problem of not finding what i want now... i don't really car about extieror color anymore... id prefer tint coat red or silver or even white but i don't much care for the black or the yellow... i do not want all black interior... red/black or grey/black r cool... meh... pain in the bootay car shoppin

true true & true. In terms of keeping warranty u DEF want 2 get an LSD from the factory. Tearing it apart later will DEF give u warranty issues. And its quite easy 2 check for, look on the window sticker if it has a POSI; itl be listed with a co$t, as it is an option. And good luck with dealer/warranty disputes. MY dealership makes me feel almost criminal 4 having the S2 THEY sold me. I can almost hear the shopMGR saying " well, that s2 of yers has enough power to tear ur (insert here) apart, I think u were prob f-in around when it blew up." If they r gonna want to distribute the "hi-perf" cars they sell, they shant scrutinize their buyers. We didnt buy them 2 *****-foot around town. If I wanted 2 roll conservative, ida bought an aveo, kia, etc......
now. traction control and stabiltrak doesn't mean it has the LSD specifically does it?
or are those what you get with the LSD?
traction contral and stabilitrac are different from LSD. Just do what I did. Go in to your local dealership and tell them what options and what color you want, and have them search the different dealerships and have it delivered to them. I wanted a white or Iblue with the LSD in a sedan, and they found what I wanted and it only took a couple of days to get it.
nothing you can do to your car; intake, exhaust, system, whatever can void the warranty just by installing it. according to my uncle, not even tuning can, but i don't know about that. however, your warranty cannot be considered void unless an after market part that you install and is not GM causes something to go wrong with the car. installing it isn't the problem, it's the remote start making things go haywire that would void the warranty. I have new rims, and a complete sound system in my car, and the last time i took it to the dealer it had transmission, a/c, and body issues, and all they said was that the rims looked nice and charged me $98 to change the tire size in the ecu, and nothing to fix the other stuff. they may not even know it has a system though, since my h/u is stock...
hmm interesting point. If the guy at the dealer wasn't being such a jerk. I asked him if they could search thru a directory listing list or something like that for chevy dealers and he didn't do it, he basically told me that i could do that at home. like the idiot didn't realize that all the dealers don't use CARS.COM or AUTOTRADER.COM, like he told me (i knew he was lying). i hated that guy... he lost the sale that's for sure. If that car has the LSD on it i'll more than likely end up with it just because i could get it for a better deal... not to mention, i'm tired of looking, i'm tired of researching, imma jus get the dam thing and load it down with HAHN products lol! idk anywhere around here that does tuning tho...
How much did it cost you to get the car moved from lot to lot?
I mean how exactly did that work?
i think i want the tint coat read the most.. with maybe black/grey interior.. and fully loaded, EVERYTHING! lol... not just half way loaded... minus the performance display cuz that ish is so ugly, i'll get a dashdaq or sumthin to go there

You will get different answers to warranty questions from every dealership you go to. The one I work at will probably tell you that most mods will void some part of your warranty.
For example:
You put a CAI on your car. Anthing air intake related is VOID because it's not factory. Plus, if something enters your turbo or engine and messes any part of it they can void the warranty for that because the factory air cleaner wasn't there to keep it out. They do not have to fix it.
Same goes with a Tune. A bad tune can mess up more than just your PCM. If it does, should warranty cover something that someone else programmed?

Dealer will try anything 2 get out of coming out of pocket. They will find any little thing u did and blame the failure on you. Best thing is to plain n simple remove whatever is an obvious indication of modification from your car (b4) u take it in or have it towed. Just save yrself the trouble of having that debate with the Head grease monkey or any of his subordinates...
yea... i don't really know who to talk to about warranty stuff because i get different answers for everything... he told me an air intake would void the warranty on the hole car which sounded ridiculous and he said the samething goes for a different rim other than a chevy or GM rim...
i wanna do boltons but i guess i'm trying to figure out how long i should wait to do it more than anything, because the warranty can always be bent by the dealer... i want to get a CAI on there when i first get it and break it in with one then do everything else.... what's the best way to go? completely stock for a while and when i feel like the car is running well put stuff on it... some times you can tell if something isn't going to last
and the thing with a CAI the dealer can put that GMPP one on there... and i can change it later so everything matches.. HAHN!

Is the LSD important to have when your car is modded? say if ur puttin down 320 or 330whp... will the LSD make enough of a difference? i guess i could always get one added to it but i mean it's 500 bucks from the factory. it's cheaper... i guess when i get all this stuff done to my car i could just add one... ger idk i wanted that but i'm so tired of trying to find a cobalt that has everything i want... plus i can get this one for a good deal.. hmmmm is it worth it lol
oh.. and does anyone know the locking percent or transfer ratio of that factory G85 LSD for these cars?
keeping in mind that this car will be street driven.. prolly won't ever see a race track.
