Has my new car been tuned? *SAGA*
Has my new car been tuned? YES IT WAS! DYNO, Etc>>>>
Well I decided to start a new thread on this topic. It came up on my *First Drive in My New SS* thread and then seemed to take over as a new topic there. For the *Uninitiated*..I just got this used 09 SS (8K Mi) last Friday and it *appeared* to be BONE STOCK.
I now *see the light* and what folks here have been trying to tell me. I really appreciate all the feedback. This car is programed to maintain 260HP *at all costs*. That's a pretty radical approach and one that I didn't fully appreciate or understand. People here were questioning the *unusual* boost levels I was getting under conditions that should have rendered LOWER boost. I have been hitting 20lbs boost on a REGULAR basis, where most cars (near sea level and normal temps) should be seeing much less. For example, last night at SEA level (in Burbank, Ca) where the ambient temp was 68F, I was hitting 21-22 PSI. The program is set to hit max boost only under conditions that are the POLAR OPPOSITE of that (where one would normally LOOSE BOOST!)..ie, HOT ambient temps and HIGH elevation. BINGO! Somehting fishy here. I now suspect a tune is the culprit. Another *clue* are the BRAND NEW TIRES on the car which only had 8K mi..WTF? Why would they be swapped out.....hehehe...trashed tires from hammering the rubber???
Well, I'm going to dyno the car on a Dynapack that I've used before. Dynapack can be a little *generous*, since the sheels are off the car and it measures HP to the HUBS. They say it registers at about 5-10HP more than Dynojet...give or take. Still, looking at the data, I should be seeing no more than 250ish on that dyno if it's *stock*. Anything over 260 would certainly be suspect for a tuned car.
Thing is, I was going to add the GM1 upgrade in a week or so. Now I'm putting that off. I don't wanna F$$K with this car if it's already tuned...and it's FAST already. I have clocked this car's RPMS from 4Kto 6K(62-94MPH) in 5.2 sec....FAST BABY. I know that because I've done this with two other cars (similar gearing and weight 60-90MPH there) that had around 280HP plus. My Porsche 944 Turbo was the same weight with 250 HP and did this test in 5.8 sec and it didn't hit low 5s until I did more mods and higher boost. My Camry SC did 5.2 sec and it had 260WHP with Dynopack.
Stay *tuned*

So hitting 20- 21 consistently (spike) is normal then?
Oh..definitely not GM..I looked..stock harness/sensors all the way.
Take a picture of the MAP Sensors.... That will be able to tell us if you GMS1.
And take a video of a 2nd gear pull form like 3,000 rpms, so we can see the boost & mph.
Yea. It doesn't seem like it's stock. I'm in FL, and I used to hold 16-18 stock, so....

Definitely sounds like it's possible tuned. You never know.
And I agree, I think it has some sort of tune on there....
My bet is on a trifecta tune that's why they left it on there.
Unless you got the Gimpsters coupe he traded a few months ago but I think he would have pulled his tune off of it.
PM him with the VIN if you like, I think his was a VR coupe with the red & black interior. He has a VR sedan now.
GMS1 sensors say Bosch on them plain as day.

But then again I'm in Florida... Just about at sea level.
I have had CELs from my Dejon SRI, but thats unrelated. The SRI is gone now, and I still make the same boost.

Does that help as far as the car you mentioned?
When will people understand that boost is only a "representation" of restriction...
The stock tune files on the car limit the car to 260ft/lbs... whether that comes from 16psi or 20psi.
It doesn't mean you are tuned, you could just have a cat taking a **** or clogged causing it to have to make more boost to reach desired power levels.
