HP Issues

I'm putting the finishing touches on my 09 cobalt ss. After this final tune I will be pushing about 425 hp at the wheels. I was just curious to see if anyone has any issues with bent axles or any other problems related to that much torque?

doing your research a lil late huh?

I assume you got a clutch if not, the stocker will bite the dust

Your 3rd gear, like what was previously said, will be in peril. the way you drive will determine sooner or later

If you revving over 7k too exploit the top end ill recommend springs

Thats all I got

I'd like to know what all you have done that makes you estimate high numbers. Don't doubt you, just don't have enough information.

Mods: LS1, head, cam, long tube. He relocated the driver's seat to the trunk and has to use a periscope to see where he is going.

what i want to know is why everyone is blowing up third gear??? from what i have read on this forum since owning my cobalt ss(coming from from a 5 speed hhr ss with that had 342fwhp) it seems most of these kids just can't drive a stick!! my cobalt had tranny work done from the previous owner,a 19 year old, later found out he beat the car and was just learning to drive a 5 speed. i have read stories on hear of people blowing the tranny due to i thought i shifted to 4th with they shifted to second . oh yeah, nls, a BIG killer in trannys!! i never done it and will never attempt to. i feel i can shift fast enough to win. if i don't win,oh well, atleast i can drive my car home without having to wait on the tow truck.

i could be wrong and i don't claim to an lnf guru, but i have NEVER messed up a tranny in the 4 years of owning modded lnf's.

Lol.. What did you make 342 or whatever on in the Hhr? And trannys in the cobalts are 3.82 not like the Hhr 4.05. So therefore that's a big factor. And a lot of cars that blow 3rd gear have high tq or good amount of tq. I've blown 9 trannys in a Lil more then a year. How'd they blow? Top of third gear, it blows... Has nothing to do with a driver lol or knowing how to drive stick when already in gear during a pull lol..

after i posted i realized the hhr tranny was better lol...people may doubt my numbers i had on my hhr and that's fine. it was at a dyno day about 2 years ago at overspeed in rosenberg,tx. it was a bunch of gto's there dynoing. a stock auto gto was putting down between 301-312 on his three pulls. that was pretty acurate considering what numbers are advertised. now as far as my pulls on that day,my best was the 342. the lowest was 337 and 339. my mods were hahn:3inch dp no cat,3 inch cat back, intercooler,ic piping, trifecta at 25psi, STAGE 3 SPEC CLUTCH. on 93 pump gas. i plan on doing the EXACT same set up again on the cobalt. imo,if you have a good clutch you can put down some good numbers. that's the difference i saw/see between my set up compared to others. they have just about the the same mods, but on a stock clutch.

no disrespect to you james, but you are the only guy that i can say i would trust with hptuner. if i ever choose to go the hptuner route,i would hope you would take me on as a customer. that being said, most people have NO idea when it comes to tuning an lnf. i know i don't,but i know what's safe and what has worked for me. "if it ain't broke..." you know the rest lol. besides, i'm 37 and could care less about the "almighty" 400hp goal lol...IT'S A COBALT!! LOL. i have a 230hp gsxr 1000 if i want to get real stupid lol. yes it's boosted lol.

I am pushing over 400wheel torque on my e47 mix tune and I didn't blow 3rd, heck on a highway pull with my ethanol tune I can spin em form 60-almost 90mph... I did however, have a bearing somewhere in there get marred somehow and it was making an annoying humming noise, they replaced the whole transmission for free.99 but I never had a problem with 3rd or anything. Mods are in my sig by the way.

The thing about making power on the LNf is the actual engine health. I had a guy make 353 on pump has and 26lbs but that **** was so aggressive it wasn't safe for a dd. but the guy wanted it like this. So I said okie dokie..
