I need your guys help/opinion
Haha i feel like a broken record saying this
but im in the market looking to buy a ss/tc, i've come across this cobalt:
2009 Chevrolet Cobalt SS $13,499 - Southern California Auto Sales Inc. Fullerton California 92833
Now i just got back from checking it out, and it looks pretty clean.
There's a couple of minor dings, the paint looks like its chipping a bit on both the side skirts but only the size of like quarters on couple of parts, and the interior looks almost brand new.
The previous owner changed out the muffler as you can see but it's still running stock exhaust.
But after opening the hood, i saw these...

I guess thats aluminum foil or w/e, but i dont think ive ever seen that under the hood of the tc and was wondering if thats anything to be concerned about
Also guys, i just need your opinion on the car, it does have 48k miles on it...and this is alot of money for me to spending on my next car and i don't want to regret anything or run into alot of problems, i really want a ss/tc but what do you guys think? are the miles to high, idk when tc's start running into problems but i know alot of tc's are still young like 20k to 30k miles.
Thanks for any help/advice!

Aftermarket shifter... Cross drilled and slotted front rotors (Those need to go BTW)... It has probably been beat to hell but you'd still have some powertrain warranty left.
The clearcoat definitely needs a buff. Too many car washes.

and why do you think its been beat to hell? why are the rotors bad?
do you think the car is still worth the purchase?
yeah the shifter too haha forgot that part, but i think he just switched out the knob cause even though i didnt test drive it, i did shift it while it was parked and it felt no different than the stock shifter in tc's

The rotors are not as good as the stockers. Cross drilled rotors tend to develope stress cracks around the cross drilled holes.
I say its beat to hell because its had rotors and a shifter put in it... It may have been tuned at one point. I'm not saying its a bad deal. Maybe if they came down on the price another grand or so. I'd also consider an extended warranty.
it doesn't look bad or anything.. The interior actually looks fantastic, AND it still has the sunroof trim ring which is a plus
... but talk em down on the price.. i got mine brand new for 17.5k... you'll be fine with the rotors unless you plan on road racing it 10x a day for a couple months straight.. they are not as good as stockers, but they look cooler, the shifter looks like a Hurst with a painted knob, doesn't mean its been beat to ****.. I got more done to my car an I haven't beat it to anything..
The "foil" you were talkin about in the engine bay is a heat shield, an if the paint's jacked up a lil, bring it up an have em drop the price more..

I saw a 2009 SS Turbo advertised for a good price at 20k miles. I knew not to buy it because the front lip was gray like it was installed yesterday and not painted and all four tires were new. That and it had pink paint all over the trim.
Someone beat on it horribly.
I have a feeling for these things... I work on cars all goddamn day. =p
not necessarily HORRIBLE... just means you can take a lot more off of the price.. see if the breaker bar is bent.. if it is, offer 1k less and buy a new one for 50 bucks from a junk yard... if there's any exterior damage on the body at all, take more off... if the rear bumper is fucked... take more off... just because it's been in a collision and that collision happened 2 years ago, doesn't mean a LOT. just make sure you get a second look at the car before you buy it
dont buy it, i personally would never buy a car that has had structural damage to a unibody. and if its suspension damage, chances are suspension and steering parts are still bent and just being compensated for in the alignment.
just the fact that its at 4 other owners just blows my mind haha and one of the owners at it for 13 ******* days lol, and i don't want to be buying a balt that has had damage done to it...but idk it looks so clean in person hahaha fml
cobalts aren't for everyone.. the car probably scared the **** out of that person because those small turbos can spool pretty easily. go look at the structure and lines of the car. if it was just a fender bender and the bumper bar along with bumper cover has been replaced, then it's probably not a big deal at all... if you know anyone that owns an SS/TC, have them come with and test drive it to make sure it's good to go.
looked clean because it was probably repainted after the accident. haha. You are definitely better off either saving, or looking for a nice supercharged with lower kms, and ya 4 owners is pretty insane. if it seems to good to be true it probably is. while i was looking for my TC there was a black one on craigslist with 30000kms fir $13,000, it had a dent on the hood and bird crap stain on the rear bumper, front tires were COMPLETELY bald. When he took me for a test drive he had the thing bouncing off the rev limited while it was still cold....... i didnt end up buying it, i spent a little more money and got my car with 22000kms for $17500. im only 19 and going to school so having a tc on a low budget is doable
gotta love financing, haha
haha yeah i've been searching for four months, but within the time i've been waiting for my G5 to sell, but no one wanted it cause it was modified so i just put it back to stock so im throwing it back up on autotrader
