Ignition Heads up!

Hey guys, I know there is a thread someone about this ( I can't find it in searches)
But heads up with your ignitions, I recently as of last week hit an un marked pot hole, didn't damage my car but found when I got home my key was stuck in my ignition and I could not shut the car off...

Stalled out, unhooked battery and got it towed to the dealer.
Called next day told me it was a tumbler knocked out of place and it was quite common for Cobalts (All models)

Happened to me also. The dealer repaired my lock cylinder. A few months later I got a letter from Chevy about this.

Here is a link I found on it.

If anybody should have any questions as to whether or not their vehicle is included in the special coverage, or would like more information, I'm happy to look into this if you would please send me the last 8 digits of your VIN.

Kind regards,
Sarah

Same, but since GM is covering it for I think it said 9 years or 193,000km (where the hell they come up with that random number ) I won't bother unless I run into the problem.

Sara,

Just had mine fixed by the dealership today. After I got to work my car would not turn off. It's a 2010, only 2.5 yrs old but has 55k miles. Unfortunately they could not find a recall and charged me an outrageous $340. Of which $200 was labor.

Here is the last 8 of my vin. Please let me know if anything can be done.

Thanks.

The only recall letter I've gotten is for the power steering motor.

Don't you just love dealerships? 90% of the time I would rather have my ***** smashed with a hammer than go to a dealer, but recently I found a good one so hopefully you can find a good one too.

I have a 2010 thought it would never happen then no warning signs it did.

Dealership replaced under "extended warranty"? I only have powertrain left on my 2010. I don't know for what SHOULD be a FREE fix still costs me $113 deductable.

20869121 can anyone confirm this is the latest any newest part?

I believe it's insane some have to pay while other's are recieving free recall notices. It's the same defective part on the same car is it not.

Just had this happen to me. Took out the ignition lock cylinder, backing plate that holds the springs on the tumblers had come off, causing it to jam. Trying to fix it now.

Well, howdy-doo. I just got the letter today that says Chevrolet will replace it for 10 years or 120,000 miles a NO CHARGE. If you have been charged for this, call 1-800-222-1020. They will send you a reimbursement form. If you still have your records, you can get your monies back.

Does this include 2010 Model years as well?

I apologize that this is such a delayed response - I was out of town for a week and my back-up for the forum must have also been swamped. I looked up your VIN and your vehicle did not fall into the special coverage that was issued (for 2007/2008 Cobalts). If you should have further questions, don't hesitate to get in touch via private message.
