Intercooler Drain

Has anyone ever tried to loosen and remove the drain on the intercooler ? I assume it is the bolt that is in what looks like a drip tray on the bottom of the intercooler on the passanger side ? I'm not sure what type of head it has. But I was wondering if any one has ever tried to drain it and if so. How much oil came out. I'm wondering if it is even worth trying to do at all ? My car is an 09 with fairly low miles.

Do you mean radiator? No oil in turbo intercooler air only. Maybe attaching pics would help us help you.

^ No, oil does collect in the intercooler if you haven't installed an oil separator and you have a lot of pcv oil vapor. I haven't done mine but I should seeing how bad my valves were.

I don't think intercooler has a drain on it. I could go check, I got a stock on sitting on the shelf. the rad has a drain. u looking at the right thing there? I wish intercoolers had a drain, u never know, may get water in there or oil. kinda sucks having to take it all apart. I had a little oil in mine before I put on powell oil separator, I took it off and cleaned it out with methanol, let it soak a bit and swished it around and emptied and repeated till the methanol came out clean. was pretty oily at first. had checked with borascope first and saw a little puddle of oil that had collected.

Intercoolers don't have a drain. They do have a condensation bar on the bottom that you can break off tho

Here is a picture of the screw i was mentioning. There is the one in the pic , on the passanger side. There is not one on the drivers side. I thought I had read before that John had said the lnf IC had a drain on it per design by GM ? Maybe I was dreaming ? But I seriously thought it had one and that maybe this was it ?

That is the condensation bar
Water is supposed to drain down there to the lowest point in the system then evaporate
You can take it off and drain whatever is left but most people just end up ripping it off on a bump I did 2x and haven't seen anything come out yet

question, if you have a catch can, will it perform like john's product?? installing my s20g and cleaned out my IC and it was oily. does john oil separator work like a catch can??

No, most catch cans are literially a can the air passes through. I know a few ppl have ran a catch can for awhile including track days, and when they checked it there was no oil in it. Just spend the money and get a correct set up that will function like advertised
