Unhappy Key stuck in the ignition of 2009 SS/TC

So my key is stuck in the ignition in the on position. I can't even turn off the car, so I just unplugged the battery for the time being.
I asked the local Chevy dealer how much it'll cost to solve the problem since I don't have a warranty & they quoted me $296.
I removed the panel on the steering column to see if I could find the button to press to release the key, but I was unsuccessful. I'm not much of a gear head so working on a car isn't an easy task for me. Let's see what GM can do in a couple of days.

My god someone really screwed up this part on these cars. Piece of crap. I feel like at least a 1/3 of LNF cobalts have had this problem.

Same here. I never actually experienced the problem, but they replaced my cylinder under a recall notice when I had the power steering fix (which I did have problems with).

I take it you work at a Gm dealership or is that online somewhere. That is the gm si program. See it everyday.

I just did a Google search for "Cobalt Lock Cylinder Recall notice" and it was linked on one of the pages I found.

Did this. The guy checked my vin & said that my car isn't included in the recall. *shrug*

I never received a notice for this one. Maybe I've got the updated part.

Its kinda funny how it started happening to everyone at once. Its a recall. I got it fixed outside of the 3 year/ 36k mile warranty. lol. They told me they were doing me a favor. This happened about 2-3 months ago to me.

There is no notice. Just go in when it happens and tell them about it and how all your friends with cobalts also had it happen to them.

It amazes me how hard some dealers try to get out of having to do work when they know there is no profit in it for them. How is it not covered, you have an 09'?

I spoke to two different dealers. Neither were willing to do it for free.
I ended up taking it to the closer of the two to get the problem fixed this morning. It'll cost somewhere over $300!
Chevy dealers are the worst dealers I've ever dealt with, and trust me, I've dealt with Honda, Toyota, Nissan, CarMax & most recently Kawasaki.

WOW, I cant believe they made you pay for it, that is BS. It should be covered for all cobalts because it DOES happen to all cobalts.

Yep.
Chevy has awesome cars, but from the two dealers I've dealt with since owning this SS, I I've to say they have some of the worst service.

Sorry to hear you weren’t happy with your dealership experience. Can you tell me what happened that wasn’t what you expected?

Thanks,

Mine did this a couple weeks ago. I was still under warranty so it was done for free. I've read about this issue enough that i was just waiting on it to happen to me.
