I recently just purchased a 2008 Cobalt SS. I know next to nothing about the cobalt ss only that the 2008 turbo has some decent stock horse for such a little car. So when my cousin who has been in the air force for about 6 months said his 2008 Cobalt SS with 50,000 was for sale for 9,000 I jumped on it.

I know it is a good buy for the price, but after ALOT of research I am pretty much convinced it isn't the SS I thought I was getting but still I can't complain. He has a cold air intake on it and maybe some exhaust work. I haven't been able to look the car over to much since the lien has to get released before I can bring it home.

I thought 08 only came out with one type of SS, but maybe he opted for the supercharger instead of the turbo which wasn't what I would have done but the VIN has a B not the X in the VIN. I also stuck the VIN in the Car Fax Report website and it came back as a Cobalt Sport, but it has the SS badging, 18 inch wheels...but no Brembo's...weird combos.

I'm thinking of finding an actual turbo car and trading up once I get this one.

 

its NA 2.4 not a boosted 2.0

gm made a non-boosted SS aswell, with the 2.4L motor but no boost, just the SS body kit and 5lug wheels, rear cailpers etc, why? I dont know...

I would just pass on it, if its not what your looking for, that or build it.

I thought starting in 2008 they dropped the ss/na and just called it sport instead?

When I did my research I thought there were no SS's made till the second quarter and they were only turbo cars and they stopped the production of the supercharged cars.

 

he put badging on it the 08 and above is call the Sport. They only made one true SS in 08 and thats the turbo. I hate to say it but he really screwed you over...

 

It books for over 9000. True it is still a Chevy cobalt though.

but they do not hold there value at all and the 2.4s are hard to get rid of, trust me I had one maybe try and get 9,000 on trade in for a turbo one... I would tell him you dont want it and thought it was the turbocharged one

Well it's better than my 2000 civic with 260,000 and a broken piston skirt..but barley.

I was going to say the VIN has no X in it (which I believe signifies the LNF), so no LNF for you. Looks like someone already showed you that with the VIN look-up though.
