call me we got CED prices pretty much here in Ontario. GM Canada mark everything up BEFORE they add the cost of exchange and taxes etc so it inflates the prices horribly, the parts folks are not very smart; they must not realise that their game increases their profitability but loses them huge sales volume. The internet finds them out for sure...

Same advice that Mark and John are giving. Stock Ferodo pads are better than most for moderate track work. HPS is unusable at a fast pace on ANY track. HP+ will glaze badly, and they squeal, so there's really no point.

Now if you want dedicated track pads, Cobalt Friction XR1 is what I run, but they are track only pads. And to OP, ditch the stupid drilled rotors.

So are you using the stock rotors with the Friction xr1's? I'm sick of the HPS, as you were right. I took them for a couple more track days and they just die after about 5 laps, they do not stop. I wan't soemthing as a DD and for track use without having to change them. Do you suggest just regular stock rotors and pads. I already know I'm going to get the stock ferrodo pads, i just don't know if I should stick with the stock rotors. Or go with some R1 concept rotors or soemthing else..

Stock rotors + XR1 for track only. I put the stock Ferodos for DD. If you are unwilling to swap them for track events, then stick with stock.

Stock, after a ton of abuse. They are wearing perfectly. FYI - that's what rust looks like after you've turned the rotors and wheels insanely hot.

I guess Stockers will have to do. I guess you really get what you pay for, even if it is stock parts. Those things are pretty damn expensive but they do the trick better than aftermarket..

They are part # 25808929, with a quick search of "cobalt SS 25808929" I found them at parts.com $30 cheaper than from Crateenginedepot

Whoops, I meant that the stock rotors were wearing well. This pic was immediately after coming off the track, so I was running Cobalt Friction XR1. Not uncommon for the rotors to glow a little under hard braking.

Any chance they'll hold up for track use on the back? I love the stock pads but both dealers told me not in stock and a week to get for the rears so I ordered off the net for something to stop the grind of the pads into the rotors. I ordered new rotors, too, fwiw. I have read that Hawk HPS on the fronts is bad news for track usage and the stockers after some spirited hooning (to use an aussie term... ******* around and tearing it up) around I decided that the front pads and rotors are so resistant to heat fade that nothing else is needed for what I would attempt on a road course. I am concerned that in track use the rears might get toasty enough to become a hazard with the HPS

HPS in the rear is fine. That's what I use, even on track.

The rears do very little work. They basically just keep the gas tank from dragging on the ground. I've tried HP+ in the back before, but it actually doesn't work quite as well. Back to HPS for me.

Sorry to get off topic, but wangspeed what camera mount do you use for your track vids, they're sick.

AMT Engineering - Stealth Car Headrest Camera Mount - Motorsport Products for the Active User

Paired with a very nice Panasonic HD camcorder.

Why are the stock pads so good? Usually that isn't the case on most cars. Just curious, thanks!

Because they were designed for a high performance car. Same pad material used on other high performance GM cars like CTS-V etc.

I run stock on my fronts and HPS' on the rear (due to the fact stockers on the rear EAT rotors like they are candy).

Also the same compound found on Ferrari 575M Maranello, Maserati Grand Sport, back brakes on Audi R8, and I'm sure there are more.

It's a good relatively quiet compound, and the toughest stock pad I've ever tried.

My front pads are at 2mm according to the dealer (I'm at 56K miles), so it's time to order some new pads and possibly rotors.

I'm leaning towards R1 premium slotted rotors front and back, Ferodos in the front for the pads, and HPS pads for the back. I was going to try HP+ for the rear, but then read Wangspeed's advice on them and now thinking about going HPS.

Car is mostly used for a very spirited DD, some twisties. Does that sound like this set up would work for what I need it for?

P.S. Yes, I know I'm reviving a thread, but I'd rather revive a relevant thread than open 50th+ thread on the same subject.

GMPD lead by Mark Reuss and directed by John Heinricy and his test team, developed the SS cobalts (other than the bs 06 SS appearance package) and JH got the pads right. He is 'da mang'.

Ferodo HP1000 are fabulous pads. Stock LSJ darn fine also. Rears work so little they last 2x the fronts. I use stock (LNF) onb my Redline.

This is for dd and occasional track use. For serious track work all sorts of different pads are worth getting , I favor Pagid RS14 and Warren Wang favors Raybestos 43 most recently. But for most of us, stock is great.

But will these pads still squeak or they are quiet?
