Looking into buying one and wanted advice

I have been looking for a new car and the 08-10 cobalt SS/TC seems to fit exactly what I wanted. The two deals I have been looking at are a 09 with 87k @ $5,900 from a dealership and another 09 with 108k @ $5,000 at a private party. Both look really clean and like a good deal but I have not been looking that long, so I wanted some opinions. This is my first time buying a car all on my own and it is a little daunting. Another quick question is how long do the engines last? it would be my daily driver. Anyways thanks for the advice in advanced!

If they are maintained well the engines can go 200,000. The problem is, with buying any entry level performance car, you never know how it been taken care of prior. They can be solid reliable cars if regular maintenance has been done.

They are good cars if taken care of. Just get something decent and not heavily modded and you should be alright.

Mine is currently for sale in the classifieds:

https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/comp...2-door-328014/

Price is slightly above the other two you looked at, but it's only got 79K miles and it's been meticulously maintained. No porous block issues, engine and trans are all original and are in excellent condition. Not modded and no rust issues either.

I'm in MI as well; Metro Detroit area. If you'd like to take a look at the car just let me know.

Take your scan tool with, check for codes. Ask about maintenance records. Pay close attention to the clutch and shifter cables and e brake cables. And obviously make sure that it has full boost. If you do buy it I wouldn't listen to the maintenance reminder. I've had mine since 53k and changed the oil every 3k and now have 120k and still no oil in the charge pipes and still doesn't use oil and the turbo still pushing 23psi (knock on wood, and obviously not stock). Be prepared for issues because no matter how clean a car is, it is over 10 years old. They're honestly not bad cars. Mine was beaten hard by the previous owner so I basically rebuilt everything except for the engine and turbo
