Mistake? I hope not

Hi all,
New to the forum and just bought an '09 ss coupe at the end of June. I really wanted one with an rpd and LSD but I found this car locally and it only had 1643 miles on it. I couldn't pass it up! Now I'm wondering if not having the g85 is gonna hurt when I start modding. (the mods are gonna have to be another thread, been lurking here for a while and boy am I confused lol)
Also wondering if there is group of cobalt guys and gals here in the St.Louis MO area. Thinking about getting a tune but not sure if I wanna go hptuners, trfecta or gms1. Input on any or all of the above would be much appreciated.

Is it so bad that I shouldn't mod on this platform? If so what are my options? Will a tranny swap make this an LSD car or is there more to it than that? So far I haven't noticed not having it, in fact I'm just assuming I don't because I don't have an rpd. I think they were part of the g85 option but I'm not positive on that.

You can find a LSD trans and swap it out. I know the RPD was an option on the 09 but i dont know if it was part of the G85. Lift up the carpet in your truck on the left side and look at your codes i think LSD will be one if you have it. Or just G85 which means you have LSD.

lol.. aside from some access torque steer, you will barely notice the difference.

Mod away with no worries my friend.

LSDS Are for bi**hes hahahaha. Ive blown a few up so i run open diff and am built. I dont see a issue with it as long as your not doing circuit, or somthing with advanced turning. But welcome.. Also about the tune, if you want the most out of your car hptuners since theres tuners near you. gmstg1 IF YOUR WORRIED ABOUT YOUR WARRANTY...

The LSD in ANY g85 equipped balt is to put the power down in hard corner's, Not a straight line! Ive seen open diff LSJ's on HUGE slicks cut a 1.7 60 ft! If your good with the throttle you can get two wheel peel in an open diff! Seen that too! MOD AWAY My friend!

Well I feel a little better about no LSD. Is the rpd available anywhere as an add on? If not maybe an aftermarket version?

So I take it the rpd is not available as an add on? I really hope it is.

Im sure it's a plug and play feature. Nothing different between the LNF's. As far as LSD I dont have it and no problems. And I just got tuned... I also do not notice torque steer I guess I'm just used to it. Obviously there is torque steer but you get used to it.

You wouldn't have a part number would you? Been searching that site and can't find it.
Also noticed on that site they have a cold air intake kit for the sc but didn't see one for the tc. Do they offer one?

The LSD really doesn't make much difference in fwd drag racing. I ran my quickest pass without LSD.(11.43). Come to think of it, my 8 second Grand Prix doesn't have LSD and has put down a few mid 1.3 sixty foots.

It's the most useful off road and in the snow.

If you were autocrossing and doing actual tracks with turns it can be a problem with one tire spinning through a turn but I'm sure you can still manage

I wouldn't let it stop you from getting a tune or modding ...... In a straight line alot of cars without lsd will still spin both tires . The problem you will have is putting power to the ground when turning .

Another thing to look for on 2008's is the build date ...... there were a bunch of early 08's that were hail and wind damaged right from the factory . If your build date is May or early june of 08 ....it could be one of those cars . Welcome to the site.

RPD is a sick feature I must say. But the LSD meh.. Just get some bomb ass tires and tranny/engine mounts. you'll be fine.

Regarding the RPD, you could always just get an Aeroforce Interceptor. Very easy to set up and is every bit as good as an RPD as far as info and features go.

torque steer shmorque steer, im jealous i wish i could hook up an rpd so bad.

yea lsd's probly come in handy the most around turns, but for me (having less power) i barely notice understeer and never had a problem with torque steer. plus i burn both rubbers anytime i spin'em.
