motor mount question(s)

well this past weekend i changed my oil. while under the car,i glanced at the front motor mount and saw that the rubber mount was starting to crack or tare.

now as far as replacing these with upgraded ones (i was looking at the ones ZZP sells) are these things a pain in the ass?

ive never put motor mounts in before,so if anyone has any tips or advice or general info at all, that would be sweet!

i plan on parking the car in about a month or 2 but this would be a winter project,so im just trying to gather info/tips right now.

thanks!

well i think ive realize the difference in mounts. im talking about the mounts in the front of the car by the bottom of the motor. on the back side of the intercooler

im doing my tranny mounts soon and it looks straight forward, the mounts dont support the weight of the engine, just the back and fourth movement. 3 bolts on the front mount and 4 on the rear

those are your trans mounts, they are very simple to install though. on the rear one i found it easier to take off the mount and the actual bracket too, made it easier to get in place. doesnt take long to install at all though, just have to jack up the engine/trans, unbolt them, install new ones (but dont tighten to specs) lower the jack so the engine/trans can sit, then tighten to specs.

I have brand new avid mounts for sale, 110 for both shipped, and the one on the left side of your engine is a motor mount, the two on the bottom of your car are your tranny mounts, I've replaced all 3, really easy there are instructions on here

no problem, but yes the one up top by the intake is the engine mount. the two on the bottom side, ( next to the intercooler and the one on the subframe) are your trans mounts.

What gives more vibration, poly engine mounts or poly trans mounts?

By only having 1 or the other has more vibs. When you do both tranny and engine, you will have less vibs.

Customers have stated this over the years. Reason why we believe it is true, is because when you only do 1 side, the other side is still "sloppy". Then that slop side makes the rigid side transfer all that movement through it. When you do both, you dont have that huge sloppy movement, and you dont get all those vibs. So do both at once is best.

I currently have all poly in my SS. It vibrates noticably at idle, but smoothes out when under way. It vibrates MUCH worse when the A/C is on. It's acceptable to me, but I'm real easy. Typically you would feel more vibration on the tranny mounts as that is what dampens the front to back motion of the motor.
