Never Sell Your Cobalt SS Turbo!!!
Why you guys are taking your Cobalt SS/TC for granted:
I am going to compare the Cobalt SS/TC to a the 2011 BMW Coupe M3 why?
Because the M3 is a performance ICON and I own a M3 and although I will probably never sell it either ....the reasons I am buying a Cobalt is the reasons why you should never sell it and why I will never sell it...
Now my perspective is from a weekend mechanics, modifying, mechanic wanna be perspective. Mechanics and modifications are my hobby and I seriously enjoy it so my perspective I will agree is a little warped.
Don't get me wrong the M3 is an amazing car...but I think you guys take for granted some really amazing things your Cobalt's have in comparison .....
TOP 10 things you should recognize are amazing benefits of the 2010 SS/TC VS 2011 M3:
1. Reconfigurable performance display RPD: M3 hides everything from its user they want to keep you stealership service dependent. Hell I had to find a hidden menu which takes 3 minutes even to get into it to see the volts on my battery. Forget about: car's engine torque, horsepower, g-force, boost, wideband air fuel ratio, barometric pressure, cam phaser angles, overlap, spark advance, temperature, and battery voltage. None of this is available in one of the most highly regarded cars on the market!
2. Service tech manual. Cobalt has a service tech manual. M3 has NOTHING. You have nothing to help you with torque specs, assembly reasebly etc etc. You are on your own unless you buy a horrible DVD from ebay that is hard to navigate and is very limited in infomation. Seriously sucks because you do not want to modify let alone work on a 25k engine without a tech manual.
3. Advanced high quality package: The M3 is considered top of the line...hence the price tag being over 45K to 50k used and 75k brand new right? Well you would be suprised what your car has...
cam-driven high-pressure gasoline direct injection fuel system....M3 nope.
Dual camshaft continuously variable valve timing.......M3 yes
Electronic steering...................M3 NO
Brembo brakes........................M3 NO
Drive by wire electronic throttle.......M3 Yes
Oil dip stick..............................M3 NO seriously...it has an electronic POS.
4. Modifications: Cost is most important point. M3 axel back exhaust new...2k to 3k. HP gains minimal. Front splitter 1k, rear diffuser 1k, performance spoiler 400. You get the idea....and these are just cosmetic modifications.
5. Cost in general is stupid with M3. Cost of maintenance, cost of parts, as mentioned cost of modifications. $$$$ friggin waste honestly...
6. Risk: Engine alone costs 25k and the transmission 10K ...do you really want to mess with your warranty by modifiying this car? With the Cobalt you do not have the same risk...
7. Increased worry: Honestly the Cobalt is a low worry car, if something breaks you can fix it with cheap american made parts. Someone dings your car fairly low cost to have it fixed. With a M3 you are constantly worried if you park it anywhere will they steal it, damage it, Key it....
8. Faster than hell....Nurburgring: M3 8:05 and Cobalt 8:22...thats right for all that money extra, with rear wheel drive and all the regard as a performance icon when compared to any performance car. The M3 is only 17 seconds faster around the Nurburgring than the Cobalt.
9. Gas Mileage: 22 city 30 highway vs 14 city and 20 highway....just mo money.
10. Cobalt 260 lb ft torque VS M3 295 lb ft.....buy the GM power upgrade kit and your beating the M3 torque output.. which ...if you modify the M3 can void your warranty and you dont want to do that with this highly priced engine and transmission....
These things all add up to a worry free, fun car that you can turn the wrench on with minimal worry, and modify with low responsibility and low payments ....thats why you should keep it guys. I used to own a SRT4 loved that car. Went from the SRT4 to a 2006 GTO and then a 2008 Corvette I modified to 700 Hp then to the M3....along the way I always missed the fun of mechanically doing everything myself, the simplicity, the low cost and low responsibility SRT4. Really glad to be coming back to something like this ....the more you pay the more responsibility this is just plain fun...

Oops #8 is backwards lol.
Yeah, cobalt is a low cost tuner car. You could do everything you possibly can thats been discovered to the cobalt for under 20k. But you'll be spending twice the amount of money the car is actually valued at. For a tuner, that doesnt matter so its okay.

the gold - chain - set
The F80 m4 2015 is neato, but big crash / $$$ devaluation Will occur when the "club sport" version hits,
the breast cancer version, etc, etc..
The F80 is $75 k large PLUS that Nitwit ''dealer addendum' & Cali Luxo, guzzler, etc taxes. & oh yeah the "GERMAN paint-Sealer" crap. nationalism- sheesh!
The 2015 F80 m4 is lighter than 2013 e90 m3 v8 by ("wow") 300 lbs less; & cobalt ss lighter again by an added 300 lbs.. Not even sporting by SCCA standards.
the ss-t/c is more dynamic in transient reponse & is not so gold-chain-set oriented [ostentatious].
I conclude that the F80 m4 is ponderous & that bmw has made another mistake by placing the newly developed Turbo 6 in the WRONG Chassis!! (a lightened 1 serie or mid engined chassis like the new Alfa Romeo.)
M4 is not truly a value unless you are someone who must be "seen".

Trade-in value?
Hey guys, sorry to bring up an old thread but I am looking to possibly trade in my 10 ss/tc for a new 2015 regal gs. Anyway, the best dealership was able to offer was 9k for my car with 55k miles. I was gonna ask if anyone has ever had their car appraised at Carmax, I have heard mixed reviews......some say they get more then a dealer trade-in, some less.....
Also, any thoughts on the regal gs......I think they're beautiful inside and out but I am sure Im gonna miss the straight line speed and cornering ability of the SS/TC. Also whats disappointing is I can only get the 6spd manual with FWD, not AWD. Not sure what I should do but any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Also found a pretty a good deal on the regal gs (6spd).......$34,482 for a 2015 with 20" rims, sunroof and driver confidence package which I could care less
about in this color

I think the regal GS looks great! I wouldn't mind driving one. Id prefer AWD over manual but I'd choose AWD with manual if it were available. Maybe it will be offered on next years model?
I could probably do it if I were to end my 8 year relationship with my gf. LOL. Hmmm.
I hear ya, believe me the last thing I need is a $400+ payment on a regal GS. I have also heard rumors of the 2016 buick gn/gnx coming with a v6 twin turbo putting out over 400 hp with AWD but who knows......and if it is true I am sure we're looking at $50K plus for it

I don't have any experience for Carmax, but my only experience with trading in a car was before I got the Cobalt and was shopping around I stopped at a dealership and test drove the Balt. I had an Integra at the time, and they ran numbers. They gave me two sale prices for the Cobalt: one with the trade-in, and one without. So basically they were telling me a high trade-in value but then charging more for the car. I said that's pretty messed up and left (I wasn't going to buy anyways, just wanted some numbers). Obviously that wouldn't apply if you sell it to a different dealership than you buy your new car, but it's just something to be aware of. I hear ads all the time saying "We'll give you $5000 for your trade in, no matter how much you owe!!" but they get you no matter what.
You must know what your current car is worth. You must know what you should be paying for the new car. Easy to run your own numbers in front of them.
Lol yup. Either way, when I buy a car I always buy it for keeps. That's why I'm 34 and am on my second car iv owned ever. Besides my talon project. U pay good money for them, drive em into the ground lol.
Well I guess the title of this thread holds true "Never Sell your Cobalt SS Turbo"......I went to a carmax location just to see what they would offer on my 2010 with 55K miles......they offered 9K which I guess is fair but I would never sell it at that price ( car is in excellent condition btw which the appraiser said other than some curb rash on my RR rim)......might as well run it up to 150K miles and sell it for a couple of grand.......car is still too fun to drive
