So I was pokin around under the hood yesterday and noticed that the dexcool tank is empty. So I'm takin the car to the dealer to see what's up. Has anyone had this happen? Also I noticed that my valvecover is leaking a little. WTF!!

That's the fucked up part. The low coolant light never went on but the tank was dry. They filled it up and I guess we shall see what happens

Thats cuz the low coolant sensor isn't in the reserve tank.

That was 15 years ago. We use Dexcool in all GM vehicles that come through our independant shop and not a single one has had a problem.

I test drove a SS/TC at a dealership and the LOW COOLANT message popped up. The salesman chickened out and told me to take it easy on the car.

Dexcool was really only a problem when people tried to actually leave it in their cars for the entire 100K miles, no matter how long it took to get there. That was just pure laziness.

well i drained the orange **** and run green **** now. I never liked dexcool...and yes these cars are known for a leaky hose. looking at the engine its the right hand hose going to the radiator. that one always leaks...the stock clamp never held. i got lazy and bought some coolant **** to seal the leak and it worked like a charm hasnt ever leaked again

i dont know if you are correct, because my low coolant sensor is in my surge tank. if it is even a tick low ill get a low coolant message. maybe its diff. for the ss/tc.

Bart are you checking with the engine is hot, or cold?

if you check at different temp's you WILL see a level differance.

there is a level sensor in the bottom of the surge tank, regardless of the model.

The engine was hot both times. I've never gotten a cel on it though. Like there is coolant in it now its not completely empty. I see two indents on the bottom of the tank and the level is inbetween the two

Thanks Brian
