No engine stand need to seperate block

Like the title says have the engine out of the car. On the ground, need to seperate the block n remove the crank. Those who have done rebuilds how did you get your blocks apart???

i have a few things to share.

I borrowed an engine stand from a local friend.

You dont need an engine stand to seperate the block. Get a #3 hammer from Lowes (kobalt). and at the edge of the block there are pry points, I set the block on a garage/workout mat, set it on its side and pounded it carefully after pulling the 30 bed plate bolts of course. Rotated it slightly and hit it again, did this until it came apart. Be careful not to beat or bend on anything with a machined surface. You will be paying to get that fixed if you do. Came apart in like 5 minutes.

hitting around the pry spots where there is a lip on the bed plate that meets the oil pan, allowing the weight of the block upside down to hold itself in place, hit around until the block separates like a quarter of an inch, then I used a crow/pry bar to finish separating it. Just takes time and patience. DO NOT pry on the machined flat surfaces of the block if you are going to reuse the block. If you are going to trash the block, beat the crap out of it for all you can. I beat the living crap out of my blown block, to get the crank and other parts off that I used in my sleeved block.

yeah you need an engine stand. not one to break the block apart but you need one to assemble the block for sure.
