oil pan
oil pan
i have to replace the oil pan on my lnf. only thing is, im curious to find out if there are any tricks or problems i may run into. like for instance, the oil pump pickup tube the comes out of the side of the pan. it looks like(according to pics of the pan) all i have to do is put the pickup side of the pan in first, then tilt the other side up there. is this correct? or should i spend the extra and let the shop do it?
you have to remove the front engine mount and support the trans; the front bolts by the crank pulley are a pita to get to. Count the bolts. The pan sticks on really good with the rtv used to seal (no gasket) but make sure all the bolts are out before you start wailing on the pan to get it off...
curious, why do you need to change the oil pan? Good luck with your task.

Ital Joe that wont work for the guy, as the dip stick tube boss on the LSJ pan is a different height and he will be in a world of hurt; it will take about 8 quarts to get it to read a level lol...LE5 are the same as LNF, and common enough; the pan has way better slosh control than the LSJ anyway. + LNF really doesnt want any more oil in there anyway , but thats beside the point....

The tube inside the pan? Yes that's the pick up, it's bolted to the inside of the pan and has a screen on the other end. The oil pump gears are inside the front cover and use the crank to spin them
the tub presses into the port in the pan and is bolted under neath the windage tray with 6 x 1 mm bolts.
the windage tray needs to be removed for access. clean your new pan, after dismantling it, and then reassemble use lock tite on the bolts, 89 inch pound torque value. Good luck.

I already answered that, it will fit but the dip stick boss is a different height, and you will end up trying to put in 8 quarts to get a reading on your disptick. LE5 pans are everywhere, hundreds of thousands of those compared to maybe 5,000 LSJ's made.
these are the two pans LE5 and LSJ, side by side. In the foreground, the wider oil pick up valley and the trough on picture right in the LSJ pan contributes to the increased oil capacity. The windage tray is slightly different, and the slosh control braking and cornering is not as good on the LSJ pan compared to the LE5. The dipstick boss is different in height, and there is no doubt you can modify the dipstick to work but it is all not worth it. Stick with the correct pan for your motor...
