One thing GM really needed to do...
I've had the IRL and SS for months. My E55 sold so i went and bought another corvette
yah i see the whole keeping it cheap thing lets just hope it helps keep the price down a little.
If LSD is that big of a deal to someone they can just order the car with one. I dont think GM fucked up at all by not making the LSD standard, some people driving the car wont even know what LSD is.
yep, let's do everything that the people say this car "needs"!! awd, 6 speed, standard lsd, suspension to fix wheel hop, etc! then you know what? 95% of the people on this site wouldn't be able to afford it!
i dont understand... i always see people saying, "i want awd and a turbo!" why the **** did you guys buy the cobalt if you want awd/rwd and a turbo? not trying to be an ass, but seriously guys damn, that's like me buying an sti when i want a v8 and rwd.
it was done cheap as possable the swapped a motor into it and called it a day. Oh and it has standard rims that used to be accesories ... Turbo is maxed out makin 230-240 to the wheels. Looks exactly the same as the ss/sc SWEET! Hey atleast it comes in white now!
The only thing that I think it really NEEDS is the 6th gear. I agree all that other stuff would push the price way too much, but a different tranny with 6 gears wouldnt up the price too much would it? AWD would bring it up quite a bit.
Then get a better job. Making an LSD standard would have maybe brought the MSRP up 500 dollars. Everyone can afford that.
As for the POS 5spd manual from the LSJ. The drop of final drive was not enough. Should have dropped it to 3.55 like the 9-3 has.
awd would mean huge sale drops for gm. gm can't compete with the sti/evo in that specific market...no american car company could just barge in there and take those two cars on directly, they would get dominated. Subaru and mitsubishi OWN that market. a 6-speed wouldn't necessarily push up the cost too much, but they could bump up the price more if they wanted to.
I would assume they did try to get this one out as cheaply as possible . It will only be on the market for 1.5 years then this generation is over . John Heinrecy has said there was no performance or fuel economy gain with the F40 6-speed trans , even back before the SS/SC was out in 2004 he said it was tested extensively with the supercharged car . Seeing as how its a literal direct swap , a fuel economy gain alone would put the 6-speed in there without question .
The next gen Astra and the SAAB 9-1 will get AWD , the Cobalt will not . Home fabbers betters scrounge the salvage yards and be very versed in GMLAN electronics

No AWD for me... not worth the price and weight and power loss. Especially for only 260hp.
SS hood. Diff facias, BETTER LOOKING RIMS, 6-speed. The suspension was revamped so wheel hop may not be an issue. I am just really dissappointed in the overal looks. I would expect it to be better looking. I really wanted an SS hood too...humph
