I went to a car show today for Canada day advertised as Show'n'shine.

when i got to the gates the old fella manning the gate told me that the car show was for older cars only. i was a bit disappointed and left. i went to my mother-in-laws not far away as i was visiting her anyways. i double checked the car show flyer and the website listing. it did not say "antique" car show or that it was for older cars only. i was going to write on the facebook wall for the show and tell them that they needed to update their show title if they were going to turn away newer cars. but i would handle that later.

i decided to take my son for a walk to see the Canada day parade and decided we'd stop by the car show for fun just to look at the cars there.

low and behold i saw a brand new Z06 head down the street towards the car show.

i thought ok.. lets take a look. surprise surprise the corvette was allowed in.

i stopped and confront the old guy. hey i thought you said this car show was for old cars only? there is a brand new corvette and i can also see a later model impreza WRX STI.

oh the subaru must have entered with that old truck. i said no it didn't because i saw the truck enter with noone.

the girl that was with him said "um any type of car is allowed in here"

he said well ya but we don't let regular cars in here... they have to be special.

i said well sir. my car can mop the floor with 3/4 of the vehicles sitting here in a race and still get 37mpg and it came like this from the dealership floor. you don't think that is special?

he said well yeah. i said ok. just because my car doesn't look special doesn't mean it isn't. i don't appreciate being singled out as a person trying to drive a regular car in with a loud muffler and some rims like the honda kids. my car is completely unmodified except for the tune it has from GM.

i walked in and talked to the judges. they were a bit upset and said they would go talk to the guy at the front gate and i said that it wasn't neccessary as i had already had words with him. i would return with my car shortly.

needless to say i parked my little black cobalt next to the big bad black vette

sadly it rained most of the day and didn't clear up until the show ended.

that would burn me up, i hoped you was going to steal the show in the end some how lol.
i would of tried to leave 2 very angry and sad tire marks and not of been allowed in hehe.

 

naw im done with the angry kid phase. not worth wasting my rubber. besides the entrance was to a fairground on a street with lots of houses all the way to the gates and i figured it was an honest mistake at first when i was first told it was old cars only. there were only old cars there at the time because it was early.

no way to steal the show unless there is a category for most underrated car lol

Funny, i stopped by a car show this weekend that ended up being only vette's once i went in. As i was walking around it made me smile to think that my cobalt could hang with 90% of all of the stock pristene cars that were there, and they would have no clue. I did get several curious looks from guys when i drove in, they looked the car over pretty well, but no one asked about it because its a cobalt. Im okay with being a wolf in sheep's clothing. Back in the day some of the fastest cars around were made to look like grocery getters.

 

Reminds me of that Mitsubishi mirage on pinks all out. Made it to final 4 lol killed like all the v8 cars except the one who won

 

it sucked being discriminated against but i was happy that my car easily retained it's sleeper status as it was identified as regular and nothing special.

 

Its a freaking car show, dont turn ppl away right off the back, and he must not know what an intercooler is

 

I feel your pain, I just went to a meet this weekend that was 90% Muscle cars because everyone around here drive one... like all chargers... It made me feel good that
1. i was one of 3 manual cars.
2. i stood out (no one was interested in my car at all)
i dusted the charger that everyone loved in a race when my car was stock...

No love... and im really starting to like it that way!

 

It's great cause u can bet money and win lol no one really challenges my car anymore. But there are a lot of 400-800hp cars in my town. Higher hp ones are hotrods usually, lot of z06s , few turbo civics making north of 300 at the wheels, seen a gtr around, vipers , all kinda crap. Plus there is walls dyno guy with the 900 hp twin turbo ls7 Saturn sky lots of variety

 

even if you had a base Cobalt, that was a douche bag move to not let someone in because he basically thought the car wasn't cool enough. if it were an antique or brand specific car show, I'd understand. how old was the guy? sounds like a teenager..

 

naw he was probably in his late fifties early sixties

 

And his knowledge of cars was probably stuck in the 50's and 60's. Can't turn away a car just because you're unfamiliar to it.
