A proper shift knob material
TWM, are you listening? Had a friend make this out of a stick of Delrin.

I sent 2 unanswered emails to TWM about making knobs out of some material that was sane. Hell, I would still buy one if they made it, because they could cut the shift pattern in.
Anyways, this is the knob that my buddy made, and it's great. No more getting burned or freezing my hand. The slots help grip tremendously too. I had originally had him cut the slots thinking that I would put o-rings in them, but it's plenty grippy.
Also, I prefer the shift action without the massive weight of the regular TWM knob. It didn't fit this car's personality at all. Now it is light and precise, much more Honda like, and that's a good thing.
edit: yes, I know I need to polish it, but I'll do that after he turns down a bolt so that I can put this in a drill. The thread is massive, and the existing bolt end is way too big for my drill.

I thought about making my own knob as well. I have the TWM shifter/ knob combo too. I like it but personally I would like the shifter to be a little taller. I bought the shifter because my stock one broke, something close to a stock feel would be nice but with the quality of this shifter.

That's one of the reasons I wanted this one made. This sits higher than the TWM knob did. Even at its tallest, the normal TWM knob is too short for serious driving, and I wasn't about to pay for a different metal knob.
I feel I grind gears too easily with this shifter whereas before I could nail each gear. I am very used to the Honda's where I can just ram the shifter into gear. I can nail 2nd-3rd in my car nicely but my 1st-2nd is kind of hard. I can also do 3rd-4th nicely too. Maybe I don't drive spirited too often. It just feels harder to shift gears with this shifter even as a daily driver; that is why I want a taller shift knob. I love this shifter because it is made so well.
We're always listening to our customers and we appreciate all the feedback we can get! With that being said, the round shaped shift knob we include with our SS/SC and SS/TC short shifter has been our most popular model for many years. But as they say, different strokes for different folks!
We currently offer 2 other shift knob designs with this short shifter, both of them taller for people who like the shifter to sit higher and closer to the steering wheel. I'm personally a big fan of our Big Type R in the Cobalt.
I'm sure some of you will also be very happy to hear that we are currently working with new material for our different shift knob models. We're developing a hybrid design including a stainless core for the advantage of the extra weight and a delrin outside for a touch very different from metal. We're really excited about this product development and I'm sure you guys will appreciate what we come up with. As you will appreciate the cable clamps we'll be releasing in the next few days!
Thanks,
Frank

You think that's bad? Try quoting me. It censors part of my name. I've complained about it in the main thread about censoring, but nothing came of it. So much for being paying users. Both you and I pay to participate here, and get ignored by the admins.
LOL they censor K n o b and W a n g but I have seen plenty of worse 4 letter words that do not get filtered.

If you come out with a Delrin knob I will buy a short shifter, (in Colorado we have too many weather extremes for metal knobs. )
