Regal F40 adjustments in HPT

so i bought a regal f40 with the factory f35 speed sensor built into it and was wondering if any of you guys knew what adjustments i need to make on hp tuners for everything to work correctly? if you can point me in the right direction of where i should get started that would be greatly appreciated as ive never messed with these type of settings before.

im currently using the mpvi2 with the latest vcm suite straight off the website.

thanks guys!

What I found the older F40's are 60000 PPM ( pulse per minute ). Not sure if the newer ones use the same or not. I'm going to try that myself. Just throwing it in as is isnt too bad. My speedometer shows around 65 MPH when I see 60 according to my GPS

thanks for that! now i assume youd just adjust that ppm number higher or lower till your mph is spot on, or is that not how that works? what about tire size?

@AG305 so when you open your tune go to the speedo tab and on sensor calibration VSS pulses per mile i have 24,200. Thays what I was using when I had the f40 on the car. Granted the sensor on mine wasn't on the transmission. It was on the half jack

There's some math to do because you need to factor in the size of your tires, the final drive (3.762), and the number of pulses per revolution. I've done it on here before; I think it was for when Snail had the F40 installed, but I can't remember. That was months ago.

Alternatively, open Google Maps, watch the speedo, compare, and adjust until it's close enough.

thank you guys! i got the F35 sensor machined into the F40 so im not sure if that will affect anything setting wise since its the stock sensor.

i was actually gonna ask about tire size and what not. i have a draggy and that thing is stupid accurate with gps lol thats probably what ill end up doing honestly, just drive and adjust accordingly.

The sensor doesn't matter; what matter is the number of teeth (pulses) that it sees per revolution. I remember reading that the F40 should be 72 teeth - but it also depends on what it is out of.

You can mark the tire, push/drive the car one revolution while measuring pulses, and get a good enough reading.

[ 1 mile (63360 inches) / circumference of tire (Pi x Diameter - stock 225/40-18 is 78.8") ] x [ Number of pulses per revolution ] = VSS Pulses Per Mile

63360" / 78.8" = 804 rev/mile (a 235/40 should be 794 rev/mile; 245/35 is 815; 245/40 is 785)

804 rev/mile x 72 VSS pulses/rev = 57,888 VSS Pulses/mile

Important to note that every brand's tires have different dimensions and the amount of pressure in your tires will change their diameter, too. So from the calculated value, then use Draggy to dial in to perfection.

Did you use the '04 IRL jack shaft VSS? If so, that's 30 pulses/rev.

804 rev/mile x 30 pulses/rev = 24,120 pulses/mile. Essentially spot on.

so i was able to get my speedo to about +/- 1 mph which is good enough for me!

my next question is about the odometer and trip meter. it seems that they are completely off. did i adjust something wrong or did i miss something?

I haven't paid attention to mine, but haven't noticed anything "odd". I would assume they are still based off of your speedo programming.

The only weird thing that I've had issues with is that my Cruise control will not work for 5th gear. 2-4 is fine, but it will not engage in 5th.

I'm an F23 swap though, not a F40.
