Shift Problems

Oh well hi there.

I just got my '10 TC back from the dealership cause the shift rod broke and needed powersteering recall and front brake recall done.

When I picked it up in the morning, everything shifted fine. Lunch time, everything was just peachy. Coming home from work on the short drive on the highway, just before I get into town I was going into fourth and I know I pulled it all the way into fourth but it popped out and I hear a different sound than a normal shift. Then I put the clutch in again and went into fourth just fine. Down shift to third to slow down, then went to second and it didn't catch at all, heard the same sound and it came out again. Sitting at the light I could go from 1->2->3->4 and they would all go into gear. Take off and shift to 2nd and it didn't go into gear. Go up to third then back down to 2nd to slow down again and it went into gear and didn't make the sound. Stopped by the dealership but couldn't get it to happen again on the rest of the way there and let the service lady know and that I'll be bringing it in tomorrow.

On the way home 2nd and 4th caught a lot more but I figured out how to make it not go into gear. Would it just be the shift-linkage needing adjustment or fixing of some sort for 2-4-R? Just looking for some peace of mind basically cause I don't want it to have to sit there for another 2 weeks haha.

Sounds like it's just not adjusted right since it's all of the gears on the bottom of the shift pattern giving you problems. I thought I saw on here somewhere on how to adjust it yourself... Just take it back let them deal with it, it should not be a 2 week issue this time....

It was just two weeks waiting on the part, not much they could do. They even replaced my fogging headlights under warranty so I was happy. and the rental was the 2009 Malibu with the 3.6l V6 so it wasn't too bad.

Thanks for the peace of mind, I kind of figured it's the linkage on that side because I couldn't get 1-3-5 to not go in, but I don't want to touch these things myself. I just know it wasn't the rod because the shifter itself went completely limp when that broke.

I got quite a few looks when I was stopped at the lights with my shift boot popped off going through the gears seeing if everything seemed fine under there haha. Getting pretty good at popping the boot off now too.
