yeah its completely normal. happens to my car also. if you look up my name on youtube youll see a vid of me doing a 60 pull from third gear. (i did it from third cuz i couldnt get a shot of the rpd and speedo and shift quick from second to third while holding the camera) when i do a 2nd gear pull its even worse.

Maybe it's the rpd that's lagging

The speedometer is accurate it is just simply slow. Digital readouts such as RPD and Interceptors have no lag since they are instantly displaying the information.

There are several things on this car that have their readings "smoothed" and therefore lag a bit. RPM, speed, barometer, the fuel gauge, and Boost/AFR/KR on the RPD all come to mind.

To clarify, I'm talking the RPM and speedo on the gauge cluster. The laggy RPM is what's always blamed for people messing up NLSs, for instance. Once they begin shifting "sooner" (from the gauge's point of view) then the problem is usually solved.

I don't believe my tach lags much, but I could compare it against my interceptor and see.

Like so,

It's a Cobalt. You'll find something everyday that isn't right about the car.
