Does anyone know if the lower insert will still fit with a heat exchanger sitting next to it?
Does it extend out the back at all?

The Sport never had one... Which is why I am asking.
I ordered and installed the new honeycomb SS upper and want to get the lower to protect the heat exchanger some..

I bought this brand new and there was no lower grill on the 08 Sport 2.4

 

Wish I could tell you for sure, but I think it will fit. I have one for my car but never put it on because i have a tow hook on the front.

 

Sounds like someone damaged/removed it putting the front plate mount and took it out or it was a missed part at the assembly plant.

 

He could be right... LSJs dont have them either do they?

 

I thought they came with the horizontal grill inserts. Crate Engine lists different ones for the LSJ, LNF, and base. I think the LSJ style went into the 2.4 sports since it's the same front bumper cover sans lip.

Only TC's had lower grilles.

 

There are def pictures of sports with grilles. That is beside the point.
I don't know if there is something that goes backwards on the TC grille, but I can tell you that there is a big intercooler on the TC and there is no issue with the grille. If you're within the dimensions of an intercooler, you don't have to worry. But I'm pretty sure the grille would not extend past the limits of the front bumper cover.

 

Did you purchase yours separate? Did it include the hardware CED shows on their site?
This is the second front bumper cover and the original didn't have any sign of clips or hardware ever being on it. I installed the original front license plate bracket also. The original grill had the horizontal lines. Since I wanted to get a protective lower grill on I purchased the SS Honeycomb grill.

 

That would make sense from a protection standpoint for the intercooler.

 

Not really, there's still a condenser and radiator there. Not like two inches matters much for a "protection" POV.

 

Condenser is the most frontal item and it goes from top to bottom where as the inter-cooler sits basically behind the bottom grill opening. Maybe it was an option on everything but the TC.

 

It's integrated in the LS/LT bumper cover for some years, my base LT had it standard. I'm betting someone at the dealer mess it up and they just pulled it to make it look "cooler".

Anyways unless your heat exchanger is resting on the cover now you should be ok, you might have to pull the cover to install, but I'm going from memory but the tabs don't stick way out backwards

 

It doesn't go pass it so it's if not touching the bumper you should be good

 

My G5 GT came with one. and the sports came with them.

But I have a ZZP intercooler on my LNF and it is a very tight squeeze with the grille in

 

my 05 ss/sc didnt have a lower grill when i got it in 2007, but im not the first owner. i have an ss/tc upper and lower grill in the car now (was actually the first person to get my hands on an ss/tc grill, before the tc was even on car lots). the lower grill fits with the zzp heat exchanger, its tight but it does go in there.
