Stock TC Intercooler Water Collector

Hey everyone not sure if you are aware but there is a water collector on the bottom of the stock tc/ss intercoolers that should be drained every oil change. there is only one phillips head screw holding it on and simply drain it. it does get full quicker then you think!

dood is it listed on the GM Service program as a procedure to do with oil changes on the ss/tc? If not i'm at 14,000km and have not done that

Look on the bottom of your intercooler there is a flat bar on the bottom the run along it. the holds the water. and it is a regular GM service the is recommented and very easy to do. It is not in the manual tho. TRUST ME DO THIS. You will be amazed how much water you drain! I do not got a pic of it sorry but you can miss it tho! easiely noticed.

Mine was completely full

Also if your running an open air filter it will fill quicker like its not hard to do so do it and you dont need to lift the car

I had no idea this was something that needed to be done. I will check it out first thing in the morning.

I am curious as to how and why water builds up there. Can anybody answer that one?

Is there any other maintenance that we all may be unaware of?

basically this is becuase of the heat transfer going on from the warmed boosted air being cooled causes water to condense on the inside of the intercooler.

I have an LT but if there is a screw that "holds collected water" why can't you guys just leave the screw out and always let it drain??

Because then you'd have a boost leak and/or unmetered air going in and out which would jack with your engine air-fuel mixture.

I no longer have the stock IC, because mine got cracked at the plastic... hence the information I now know

If you leave it off you will leave major boost... If you start you car with it off and go to the holes there is two lil ones you will fill alot of air coming out. Depending on where you live and you conditions you may or may not have water collected in there. It is spring here and snow is melting like crazy so it is very wet and the air is getting moist and as air heats up it creates condensation and this will be collected in that collector. it is not mentioned anywhere because GM most likely never expexted it to get filled. Its best to check it now n then that way you know you good and its a simple task.

If you never check it and it gets full it will pool up in your intecooler and possibly continue through the intake system

with stock air box still equiped you prolly will notice very lil if not none.

If there isnt large amounts it will evaporate it self most likely but it wount if there is large amounts.

I drained mone tonight it was well full and i will be checking again tomarrow night and i will get pics of it and the water it collected

I say this is complete BS to be honest. If this was a major concern GM would have put it in the manual. Everybody should know that. I have never heard of any intercooler doing this before I am sure GM's LNF intercooler isn't some oooper doooper water loving piece of metal.

Well the basics of how it could've gotten there make sense. I just wonder why there's no mention of it in any manual... hmm

Maybe it's designed to where under "normal circumstances" it should evaporate on its own.

Are you sure it's the intercooler you're draining?
