Maybe it's designed to where under "normal circumstances" it should evaporate on its own.
Could be a possibility...but I do not see it happening. I am sure somebody else with more techincal sense on how the system works will chime in.

You don't suppose it's literally ingested water/water vapor... he's got a CAI on his car. Maybe the water's going down and getting injested since it's been so wet, but not making it to the engine since the IC's catching/condensing most of it.

I'm interested in hearing what this could be.

It is spring here and snow is melting like crazy so it is very wet and the air is getting moist and as air heats up it creates condensation and this will be collected in that collector. it is not mentioned anywhere because GM most likely never expexted it to get filled. Its best to check it now n then that way you know you good and its a simple task.

If you never check it and it gets full it will pool up in your intecooler and possibly continue through the intake system

with stock air box still equiped you prolly will notice very lil if not none.

If there isnt large amounts it will evaporate it self most likely but it wount if there is large amounts.

I drained mone tonight it was well full and i will be checking again tomarrow night and i will get pics of it and the water it collected
i hear wat your getting at man, i will await pics and then do mine.

I don't think this could be a possibility....even if it is on the cold side it seems that the turbo on the cold side even would be too warm to allow for water to pass through. I don't know though...somebody else chime in haha.

Does anyone know the temperatures of the air entering and leaving the intercooler? If you do, I can calculate if moisture will accumulate from the temperature drop.

I can't speak for the SS/TC but on some supercharged applications, the charged air can get well over 200F.

i talked to a tech at my dealership. they said that it should evaporate on its on and that most of it goes out threw the exhaust. so for now im not touchin it. but when someone posts up the pics and proves it ill do it

I took my screw out and no water came out but there was evidence of some condensation because there was some corrosion on the threads of the screw. Seems like it evaporates on its own in most cases.

i will have pics up tonight. i got more moisture in mine. it isnt a concern becuase it should evaporate but like me with a cold air intake and realy slushy here it fills and i will show you all that tonight once i get pics up. Its not a big deal but on my tc im not letting the water build up in there. to much at this point but come summer im sure it will stay dry.

To know for sure, I would have to dig out my old Thermodynamics book.

So based on an educated guess: if you drove on a rainy day when the relative humidity was 100% and pass this air thru your intercooler so that its temperature dropped below its dew point, then you will get condensation.

On the other hand, if you drove on a dry day, any water that was pooled inside your intercooler would evaporate away.

Thats what happened to mine - a few weeks before anyone had an intercooler upgrade available.. Another cha-ching to GM and now I have a broken stock intercooler, a good stock intercooler and hahns intercooler... You can see the crack here, but this is also where this screw is to remove it from the intercooler.

This condenser is the lowest point on your undercarriage, and is attached to the plastic end tanks.. just asking to get caught on something.

Try removing it. That screw is just there to hold it in place - there are rubber nips that actually go into it. HOWEVER this is NOT necessary.

That screw doesn't look like it was meant to be removed periodically to drain the IC. Leave it be. The moisture will eventually dissipate.

Like IsItFast?'s seperator i also had mine break the plastic , except i didn,t catch mine in time and it got prezled. bent it back into shape and sealed holes with epoxy as temp fix.

p.s any one with a cheap intercooler????

you wouldn't want to run without it because when ever your car is running in vacumn dust could be sucked into your engine , if im not mistaken

If it collected alot of water ..... wouldn't it freeze in the winter time? I can't believe it's much of an issue or all the northern SS/TC that sat out in the cold last winter would have broken intercoolers.
