I after the giant unavoidable pothole the other day, my driver side front strut is knocking. I've researched the forums and am curious as to what other people have bought (OEM/aftermarket) and how they like them. I'm sure this has been asked many times over but I can't seem to find definitive answers. 08 cobalt SS with 45k miles. DAMN YOU OHIO WINTERS.

Mine do in this cold weather all around, I'll probably be doing all around upgrade this summer shocks , struts and springs

 

In the cold my sportlines sound like sponges

 

Hmm I may have to wait until it warms up a little.. I know they squeak like hell the first mile or so in the cold though lol

 

the other day it was 7c outside and I listened for the knocking I here usually, couldn't hear it. could be the cold for u, check when its warm

 

Has anyone replaced their struts before? I don't mind tackling projects myself but I've never messed with suspension.. Just curious on DIY difficulty.

 

ive got new struts/shocks going in soon. but never done it. im wondering the same thing.

 

Did you just but the kit from CED for like 300 or something like that?

 

If you have knocking, it's end links dude.. you bent one or busted the bushing.

 

So I suppose I could start with end links to see. Are the moog end links an upgrade over the oem?

 

Yes. They are greasable

Koni shocks are the best upgrade but they are inserts and you have to modify the stock housing, I did it and it's not too hard. You old endlinks are going to be a complete pain in the ass to get off, mine was an 09 at about 50k miles when I did mine and it was just awful.

 

Pain in the ass as in everything was hard to get off or everything stripped easily lol

yeah it sucks. I wash it pretty much every week through winter lol

 

Yeah, it sucks getting the stock end links off. Probably end up cutting them.

 

The bolt holding them on gets stuck, I ended up ripping the ball out of the socket and attaching vice grips to one end while pushing on a socket wrench with my foot to get it off. This is after sitting the entire night after spraying penetrating oil.

 

My passenger side does that ****. Stance Coilovers are getting put on when back from shop.
