255/40? That seems huge. Why not 255/35?

I weighed out the Michelin PSS's but today the Continental DW's went down to $158/tire so I'm really considering those. But basically something that will hook and not lean much in turns and at least 20k miles of life.

I don't autox, just like good backroads, and the occasional trip to the drag strip. Other than that, just stick to street.
By saying that you want a tire that will hook in a straight line but yet not lean so much in turns is very contradicting. Any tire that is designed to help you hook up better is going to have a softer side wall which will lean when turning. A stiff side wall tire will not lean as much in the corners but will not hook as well because the side wall isn't as forgiving. For you I would say that the Kumho's or NT05's will work for you but be carefull in the rain with both because they aren't all that great in the wet conditions. A softer compound tire will work best for you like a 200 or less tread wear rating.
