I'll bring everyone up to speed, drove to work this morning parked the car then went back out 10 mins later once the gate was opened, whenever i do restart it back up it sounds like its kinda running rough or has a valve tap but it literally only has 350 miles on it. Anyways I parked the car and put it in second gear like most ppl. I go to leave work, climb in push the clutch turn the key and fire it up and it sounded like it was grinding gears in the trans, it was still in second but i had the clutch in. I heard the noise and quick bumped it in to neutral and the noise went away. Any ideas for either issues? Anyone have similar ones let me know please

I've never heard gears grinding on start up . My wastegate opens in 2 minutes at the most . I've always used 1st gear to park .........do most people really use 2nd ? And why ?

i always thought its better to use second, figure if something happens and the only thing only car is 1st gear lots of strain on that gear and always thats the gear you use to pull lot so more strain. I dont know i just always use second. And what do you mean your wastegate opens in 2 min at most?

Any ideas on the valve tap noise after i drove to work shutdown for 10-15 mins and then started it back up? When i started this afternoon everything was normal except for that gear noise

My sales man told me to park it in reverse. Supposedly the vet drain there battery if they are not in reverse so he told me to park it in reverse so that is what I do.

Owners manual suggests reverse.

I park in first since it has a lower gear ratio I believe. The lower the gear ratio(Higher Numerically) the more the holding power.

maybe you have a syncro problem in 2nd gear like a lot of people have been having. Mine went and had the entire transmission replaced.

The tapping (ticking) is apparently normal with these cars. Mine sounds like a diesel.

No you should use either first or reverse.

DING DING DING - the car should ALWAYS be parked in the lowest gear.

It's probably the noise from the direct injection.

also if you noticed parking in higher gears gives the car alot of room to roll forward before locking in place.

The manual says to park in reverse. I have also heard of someone with a vettes battery dying from it sitting a couple days in a gear other than reverse. I don't know why it would do this but I either park in first or reverse depending on which way the hill is I'm parking on. I always put on the e-brake before putting it into a gear to keep the load off the transmission as much as possible.

I've had my car parked in 1st gear for up to 2 months straight (winter time) without and battery problems.

Sounds like either your throwout bearing is going bad or your slave cylinder is going bad. Not good either way.

Depends.

If you park on level surfaces and use the parking brake, you're usually fine.

If you don't use the parking brake, then its very bad. Also bad for any situation on hills regardless of parking brake status.

Anyways, use 1st if the car may roll backward and reverse if the car may roll forward. If you're on level ground, then do whatever you feel like.

How can this be going bad when there is only 350 miles total, ive notice sometimes when ill come to a stop and go to put it in first it does want to and got to find another gear and then goes in, also ive notice when shifting up through gears third is sometimes harder to get in and feels like it grinds slightly but not all the time

This is only true in 2005 Corvettes. GM decided to make it so that if you don't park in reverse it would not close a circuit and drain the battery, basically like leaving it in accessory mode. No idea why they did that but it will kill a battery if you leave it without being in reverse. I guess it's to get the customer to remember to not leave it in gear when parked. In the 2006+ Corvettes they removed this feature, but I still park all C6's we get in reverse.
