Very jealous of your photos. I always meant to get my 09 Sedan out to Miller/MMP but life has gotten in the way. I have ridden in a coupe out there and they do very well.

Road America > * At least for speed. I still prefer VIR over any track I've been on so far.

I have only ever been on Thunderbolt and Lightning at NJ Motorsports Park before going to VIR. I'm going to Carolina Motorsports Park (Kershaw, SC) on Saturday and plan to hit Road Atlanta and Summit Point next year. I wanted to go to Watkins Glen when I had my Z06, but never got the chance. Maybe next year...

No. Since it's just for the day, I'm driving down and back on the same day. I'm only about 90 minutes away in NC.

Road Atlanta looks like a nice track too. I would love to hit that one up.

Sorry to revive an older thread, but the results are in (just got back from VIR in the Cobalt).

Cobalt was almost 5 seconds per lap quicker! My Dad still bested my time by over 8 seconds!

Yes, it is GMS1 with Powell springs and Konis.

My G8 had SLP springs and BMR suspension stuff on it. I consider it a fair fight!

I'm sure I can get a couple of seconds faster in the Cobalt. I was coming out of Oak Tree and turns 1 and 4 in 3rd gear. The speeds were a little slow for 3rd and it took quite some time to get into the power band, but I didn't want to pound on the car unnecessarily by using 2nd.

I read about that today, too. They're pretty sad about it up there at VIR

sad panda for the oak tree. Gloria says it was sick. 4.45 gears would make your car come alive at VIR R1owner lol.

The car in the pic above versus the video, as well as the video's title and Cobalt in the video gave it away.

Spins happen. My spin at Road Atlanta wasn't as pleasant, but it was all just cosmetic and you can't tell I hit anything now after some compounding/polishing and dent massaging.

My instructor at VIR at the time said "The only time I've ever spun is when I've had a car behind me. It happens".

Yep, I agree.. only way to find the limit is to go over it!

When did the spin at RA happen?

Also, is anyone here using 2nd gear at VIR full? I know I could in several turns, but it just seemed too hard on the engine for an HPDE.

2 weeks ago. First session, too. I was just happy that I didn't make the car undriveable. This is why I like an instructor for at least 1 or 2 sessions on a new track. I was out in intermediate solo first time on the track. Didn't even get 2 wheels off the rest of the weekend and I was hauling ass on day 2. You just can't pay attention to traffic behind you when it's not a passing zone.
