I guess it all depends what you need it for...if you are looking for a daily driver and a performance oriented car, you need that stuff...

I use my cruise all the time and could not imagine getting a car without it...at the same time, I would not want to drive a regular Cobalt just for the cruise...

There is a happy medium between functionality and performance to me...by your logic a CTS-V or G8 GXP isn't a TRUE performance model because it has all the practical things you look for in a car...

40km's on the car...

I started it up, went to pull it out of the parking spot. Stalled it, over and over again. Till I reazlied they had no gas in the car...

When I took it for a test drive, I beat the **** out of the car.

So there's two things, one no gas in the car. No break in...

Here's the biggest problem, When it was on the lot, it looked so good. When I brought it back it was covered in salt and nastyness...

Looked horrible, I don't know if it snows where you are, but I don't feel like washing the car every 2 days...

The Highrise, I like it. Except I'm short. When I look out the back I can't see ****.

Big Problem if there is a cop behind me, and I can't see...

50km over = impounded car, 2000 fine, 7 day liscence suspension + 6 points.

On top of that, wanted USB Port + RPD...

DD performance car is EXACTLY what I want. And no one NEEDS that stuff. They want it because we're lazy and accustomed to it. Would I miss cruise control and a/c? Yeah. But I'd rather have the weight advantage not having them. The "needs" for a comfortable DD performance car are noise insulation, interior trim, and rear seats. Beyond that, everything else is a creature comfort.

And yeah, I'm disappointed in the CTS-V and GXP for the same reasons. Not saying they shouldn't offer them, but there should be an option to strip down the car for those that want to actually get it out on the track for a Sunday drive.

Noise Insulation weights more then your power windows and power locks..

You said it yourself in another post, it's what each person wants.

I don't really care as much about the noise insulation, just enough interior that the car doesn't get torn to **** with people getting in and out.

Why do I need rear seats? It's a daily driver. I'm glad you don't have friends, pets, or kids if you don't need a rear seat for everyday use.

Not begrudging people who WANT the extras, just don't shove them down the throat of every consumer. When I'm ripping around at the track, I don't want that extra weight period.

If there's a car company out there that's willing to do what Hyundai is doing and offering me a car with all that added garbage taken OUT, then of course I'm going to be more willing to give them my business.

Considering Chrysler is in worse shape than GM, I'd say you can kiss the SRT-4 packages good by in the VERY near future...and that assumes there will still be Chrysler or Dodge vehicles in a few months...

Your right I don't have any friends, pets or kids

I do understand what you mean, but manufactures do this to cut cost. It's much easier to have power windows, and power locks in all models versus a few.

They can use the same door panel for every single model.

Actually all car companies do what you want, it's called the base model..

Cobalt LS - No Power Windows, No A/c, Manual Mirrors, No Power Locks

  1. Test Drive: Who beats the **** ouf of a car on a test drive when you're not intending to buy? In any event, I don't understand "no break-in" I loosely adhered to the recommendations GM laid out (car had 397 on purchase) but I guarantee that engine has been well above 5500RPM while still below 850km .
  2. High-Rise: Maybe you shouldn't be doing more than 50km over the limit on the streets and you don't have to worry about the cops . I'd be more inclined to be concerned with backing up or something of that nature, not a cop following me down the road. If I'm doing nothing wrong why am I worried about it.
  3. Washing: We're in Canada just because you can't see the salt doesn't mean its not there. I washed my silver car once per week and will do the same with the black SS/TC regardless of colour. Salt can only react with the vehicle when wet (if it's freezing outside it does little damage since the water will freeze immediately) so either wash it very thoroughly once per week, or, keep it dirty until temperatures approach 0 and the roads become wet.

We already have a 2007 Caliber SXT(wife's car) and I don't really care for it, we thought about trading it in almost right away but we would have had to take a $2k loss so we are staying with it for a few years besides it's a 4door and I'm a 2 door kind of person. No kids no need for 4 doors, and I hate being a taxi for people

But here's the thing. They DO have models available that do not have power locks or windows, so they already have the panels available.

Base model? To put it kindly, **** no. I want a car with performance. Not a neutered car built for grandma to go to bingo in. Because I'm more than willing to pay for the performance, I want the absolute MOST out of the car that I can get. I don't want or need navi, don't need Bluetooth, definitely don't need a sunroof or a/c it's just a waste of horsepower for my needs.

I don't care that they offer them as OPTIONS, I just don't see the point in making them standard.

That doesn't always mean you won't like the SRT-4. I had wanted an SS Cobalt for quite a while, but I had actually driven a friend's base model Cobalt before I got my SS. If I hadn't been so intrigued by the SS to begin with, I never would have taken it into consideration after driving a base model. I was completely unimpressed with it.

Comparing the SXT to the SRT is like comparing a LT to the SS/TC Cobalt.. doesn't make much sense does it? Because we all know the SS/TC is like a whole different car compared to the LT and LS models, many people have said the exact same thing about the SXT and SRT Caliber. If you dont want a 4 door then what about a used GTO or if you want to buy new how about a Mustang GT? I'm not one of these people that only look at domestic vehicles but just showing some of you that they're other domestic options out there other than just the Cobalt SS/TC.

I don't how necessary it is for everyone here to get a new car but if you have time wait and find one on a dealer lot that is perfect i was looking for months and in DEC i found a 08 SS/TC with only 3,300 miles sitting in a hyundai dealerships lot.

I guess we are getting off of the main subject of this post but I do realize they are a different type of car but I just don't really like any part of it. Two of my biggest peeves are the lift-gate and the a-pillar when turning left. And damnit where is the top rear bumper protector so that my dogs don't scratch it up (dealer said it's coming out three years ago)

GTO =used no thanks someones else's problem/beat on car
GT = I hope the Cobalt will get better MPG for my daily 30 mile commute (each way) in rush hour traffic

But like I was saying, me personally if I can't get exactly what I want in the SS I'll most likely end up with an ecno car for $10k less than the Cobalt I was just looking for a car to get me to work and back, and I just got hooked on the Cobalt SS for some reason (the idea of having two white Super Sports i guess)

Will They Be Built?

I'm not sure if this has been covered here or not. Some posts imply no, some yes. Is the SS still available to be ordered or not?

The performance division has gone away, and in here we find out no engine blocks are ready for building vs. a normal situation where they would have been on hand. Not getting a warm feeling about this. Then I read elsewhere a dealer said a CTS-V can no longer be ordered, however already ordered ones will be built?

In situations like now anything can be said, however is GM committed to continue making the SS or not? I can imagine GM just wants to reduce vehicles on the lots instead of building more, however there are none sitting equipped the way I want it anywhere around my area.

Well good news for the guys that want turbos. They pulled me off line putting trannys on to build TURBOS. A truck came in today with the blocks but no cars built yet. I built 20 turbos tonight. They told me to build them till the racks are empty. I am on 1 week on 1 week off. So i will call the dayturn guy next week to get his total of what he built. I think the way everbodies talking we are building them till the models change to the Cruze. But they are waiting to get big orders before building them. The Turbos are hard to build. They are all on the same line as the G-5 and Cobalts 2dr 4 dr. You have to watch the build sheet to make the car that is ordered.

Hey Ryedoggracing,

Is there a queue, or can you see how many have been ordered?

well i already have the ss/tc but i can def feel for the guys who were planning on getting one in the near future. if the SS stops being built soon and there seem to be no future plans for the Cruze SS, then it does leave us guys out in the cold right now. times are tough and i understand that, but its gonna suck when we dont have a car on the dealership floor that does what the SS can do. i have no desire for an srt4 or mustang, as they dont fit what i'm looking for in a car. i would want to maybe look to an evo for the performance and practicality of it, but the price is a bit high for me as a dd. it would probly be down to that or an Si. id rather buy domestic though and i love the ss/tc because you can performance on par with the evo at a cheaper price. whereas the Si is nice but doesnt perform as well and costs a bit more also.

Just checked updated timing today, the Cobalt will still be made with the LNF for the 2010 model year. No worries other than the build quantities may be reduced to match projected market demand/what GM can afford in parts.

There isn't supposed to be a Cobalt at all in 2010. They said in a more recent article that they would finish out the current model run, which was supposed to end with the 2009 model and that the Cruze is on track to come out in 2010.

Either way, by the time I'll be ready to buy they will be all gone.

Dont cry....Theyre still gonna build 2010 SS's R&D is all done boys and girls.... The cruze and cobalt are going to run together in 2010

but if you dont get a SS Balt there are a few other great rides in the price range
Mazdaspeed 3, WRX, GTI, Genesis Coupe I wouldnt buy the mustang because of future gas prices, and the Lunchbox SRT4, is just too damn ugly, (almost as ugly as G6 GXP)

a little up the latter is the Challenger RT, G8 GT, STI, EVO, 370Z all of which are really badass

Yep. I'll have cars to choose from, definitely. Honestly I'll probably go with the Genesis Coupe with the v6 Track Edition. Little more money but great value for what you're getting IMO.
