i never likeed those tires... if ur just lookin for winter tread go get some cheap winter tires... no special design for winter tread just real thick griping tread. the closer they look to 4X4 tires the betterin my mind.
My guess is winters aren't too severe in WV, so if he knows what tires he wants there's probably no need to talk him into a serious snow tire.
I'm not quite sure I get the question though...what I would do is:
1. Find a wheel that fits the car (this is the hard part! there's not a lot of cheap options out there)
2. Size the tire appropriately so that it fits the wheel, and maintains a similar diameter as the stock wheel (stock size is 225/40/18 if I recall correctly)
-any tire shop should be able to help you find the right size of tire. The tricky part is getting a good wheel to use in the first place.
Tirerack.com has some wheels that will fit (they're pretty pricey though). DiscountTire.com sells the DRAG DR-33 and DR-34, which both fit. Generally 17" wheels are cheaper than 18" wheels, and 17" tires are cheaper than 18" tires...the DRAGs are nice because they're 17".

winters havent been bad the past 2 years. but when snow was on the ground those good years held up great.
maybe i could get as cheap set of rims and a a good snow tire like was recommended above.. should set me back $1k or so maybe? they will only be on 3 or so months out of the year.. do the tires would last a few years im sure..

They make those tires in 225/50/18 so i would think those would work on the stock rim's .... It will be taller that the stock tires so it will throw off the speedo but i wouldn't think you would have any clearance issues.
