Why are the 2008-2010 selling for so cheap

This is so sad. New cars these days seem to sell simply because they have smart phone connectivity, a backup camera and all sorts of "driver assist" features. Park assist, Lane Departure Assist, Automatic braking. Such a load of crap.
As Nova says, if you pay attention while you drive you don't need any of it! And I can parallel park perfectly and much faster than the car can, I assure you.
Like that one commercial with the couple in the hospital going "What if our car could stop itself". smh. I'm like: "What if I told you YOU could have stopped the car if you had just paid attention and put your foot on the brake?!!"
I had a rental car last year in Europe that had all the "assists" and they were all turned on. I pulled over within 10 minutes to figure out how to turn all that **** off! It was beeping when I went even 1km over the speed limit (It constantly determined the local speed limit using GPS and an internet connection and displayed it on the dash). When I got too close to the lane dividing stripes, there was a loud buzzing sound coming from the speaker on that side of the car which scared the bejeezus out of me the first time. And when I braked a tiny bit late in traffic, the car braked for me which straight freaked me out.
All these features are great for the many morons on the road that cannot drive but I don't want any of them in any of my cars!
*gets off soap box*

All these assists are just going to make drivers progressively worse and worse at driving or even paying attention. I don't want my car to have a mind of it's own. That is why I am so happy with my balt. I've never even owned a car that didn't have a manual transmission. Manual transmissions are practically already obsolete in the US market. I can understand if someone drove a lot and practically lived out of their car would want the comforts of home but they have just gotten carried away anymore basically to have the latest gimmick imo. Like I drove a new Lincoln navigator the other day and you could move the seat and steering wheel in every direction plus the the foot pedals. There are probably 100 different combinations that could work for a single person. Like why does the steering wheel need to telescope in and out instead of just moving the seat closer. To me it is just more **** to break and have to fix and more weight to haul around.

Let's face it, People suck at driving and when full driverless cars are affordable insuring human drivers is gonna get real expensive.

We really have no idea how safe driverless cars will actually be in large scale implementation. The technology is in it's infancy and already people are talking about them like they are infallible and the only safety hurdle that exists is organic drivers. People online already tell me I'm going to have to give up my license for the more safe robotic alternative. I'd be willing to have a competition with any one of these autonomous cars and we will see who the better driver is.

We could start a whole Autonomous thread. I love the technology and am on the AAA Autonomous group and have been following much of the advancements from its infancy. It won't replace complete driving but would be very beneficial for commuting lanes. No more slinky traffic... cars merge on and off in harmony.

Edit:I don't live in the City and I hate traffic. I just don't have to deal with it. I can see how it would improve the flow of traffic drastically in densely populated area. It's when it comes to the smaller roads, county roads, dirt roads, with animals crossing, farm equipment, washouts, these roads are best suited for manual drivers IMO.

When vehicles are autonomous on a major freeway, every vehicle will see each other not just eyesight away but miles away and know their destination. Merging on and off will not affect traffic and all vehicles will maintain the same speed. I can't remember the last time I was able to hop on I25 at 70mph and remain at that speed until my exit.

I brought the 09 SS/TC for an appraisal at the dealer. It is in pristine shape, under 7k miles, factory showroom condition. The dealership never saw such a car and asked if the RPD was an aftermarket installation. They quoted $6500 which is about the right value for a trade-in according to KBB/NADA. KBB private sale would have been about $8000-$9000 max book value.
A co-worker traded in her 2008 Caliber SRT which had 50k+ miles, was in a bad t-bone accident, and overall just worn and beat up. She was about to get over $9000 in a dealer trade-in.
The Cobalt just doesn't seem to keep its resale value at all. The Mustang, on the other hand, depreciated only 50% over the course of 11 years, keeping its resale value fairly well.

I don't get it either. People here way overvalue a SS SC and then undervalue the SS TC I think they're nuts. I love my 2010 TC it's cheap, fast and fun to drive I'm good with my USB port for music. It's nothing fancy and that's the way I like it.

If you want to compare it to the newer Cruze, which replaced them, just look at how cheap you can get them for, for only being a couple years old. I am looking at buying a 2-3 yr old cruze with under 30k miles for 10k or under. And my sstc is 8yrs old and still worth close to 8k.

Well as I said I will keep my cobalt. Change the turbo, and run 10 in wheels all around with 285/30/18. With the increased power from the turbo and a good tune, the suspension I have and will be modifying with Mr. Powell's help, the cobalt will be great.
Plenty fast on the street, surprise the crap out of people on the track, and be much cheaper to fix.
To the person who asked about my Mazda. When I get back from my trip I will be putting it on ebay starting price 20k. If you looked up the car under my name you would see pictures and various info about it on the net.
Thanks everybody for the help. We have a great car, that is undervalued. No issues, we keep them and relish in how well they do what they were designed to do. Go fast and handle great, as well as set new FWD records.

But **** I25 that highway was under built for the traffic load for the last at least 10years. I avoid that highway at all costs. Gotta love the continued mismanagement of road construction in this state.

No doubt.... T-Rex didn't even get it to par. I wouldn't drive it if I didn't have to.

Hey now jackass, I moved before the legalization and i25 was not busy on Saturday or Sunday unless there was a Broncos or Rockies game and then the slow down was only the right lanes
