I agree its mostly jealousy or not knowing all the facts, I cannot tell you how many of my buddies laughed when they heard I traded my Mustang in for the Cobalt but after a quick trip to 150 mph and then back down to 60 with zero brake fade and handling in the high .90's on stock shitty tires they all have realized that in all reality its a far superior car to the mustang and will out run or at least keep pace with 99% of the cars on the road including some pretty bad ass mucle cars and V8 hot rods, there is a ton of mustang camaro corvette challenger & charger owners that are very impressed after I beat em, one older guy in an srt8 cherokee was so surprised after I kept pace with him from 60-120 mph he slowed down and begged me to go all out so I did and 120-155 MPH I ended up about 6 cars ahead of him he was smiling and gave huge thumbs up and was extremely impressed and was one of those guys that you just know went out and told all his buddies look out for those new turbo ss cobalts!!

although the cobalt T/C is a quick, fun little car. and although the quality of the car is not all that great, such as recall, sun roof switch falling off. but somehow is little bs like this makes me love american car. i don't know why, but i just love it. its the imperfection that makes this car so perfect.

Look at it this way...if you have the time and space you should put your Cobalt away and wait about 20 years. In say 2030 bring it out and take it to Barrett-Jackson or any other car auction and see what you'll get. I'm banking on these cars bringing in the big bucks like the hi-perf cars of the 60's and 70. I know because I'm an old fart (I just turned 59 on August 2nd.) with a mint condition 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner with the 400 six pack engine and I paid $3617.29 when purchased from Giordano Bros. Chysler/Plymouth in West Haven, Conn. It now is worth, at last estimate, over $65000. Not bad. Oh in case you don't know the 6 pack is three (3) two barrel carbs. The 440 didn't have the horspower of the 426 Hemi, which was 425, but it still put out over 400 horsepower.

I don't get it. I've experienced cobalt hate 3 times and read about it numerous times.
Example... I like my license so me street racing is very very rare, but my friend, my girlfriend (it's true, when your friends are with you, you are more likely to lower in IQ) and I were driving to see Scott Pilgrim vs. the World yesterday and a WRX with rims, BOV, lowered and exhaust pulled up next to me, No clue what else he had. These guys seemed cool at first, asked if I wanted to go etc. I agreed and we went and I smoked him. It was fun, well next light we did the same thing without words and I won again. Well traffic and stuff prevented more racing, but I can see them following me from a few cars back. My girlfriend is freaking out thinking we're gonna get jumped, but these kids were high school so my friend and I weren't too worried.
Long story short, they just did a drive by **** talking and started hating on my car when we got to the mall. Calling it a POS, they're surprised it didn't break down on that run and so on. My friend and I yelled back and they drove off. It was by far the most immature I've been in years. Anyway it got me thinking....
What's up with all the Cobalt SS hate?
I see it in other forums, my other friends express to me their dislike in the car.
My buddy Kyle, only drives Lexus/Toyota, has a MRS and a Lexus IS250, he respects my cars engine, but has nothing good to say on quality and cheapness of the interior. He admits his MRS isn't much better, but he says it feels solid where as the cobalt doesn't.
My other friend Justin used to drive a Chevy Extreme, but as soon as he went VW GTI, he's got nothing good to say about my car when compared to VW, but he respects the car. Even told me he'd kill me if I traded it in for a RX-8.
My other friend Javi, is impressed with the car, but hates it.... I don't get it either.
Reading on Evo forums and Honda forums, I see people saying "I don't care about the numbers, it's still a Cobalt", but isn't a Type R just a civic, or a Evo just a Lancer or a STI just an Imprezza?
Someone enlighten me?
I Love it and my girlfriend thinks it's really nice, but she would rather me have an RSX or a Kia Sorento...... yup a Kia......

Hate and also Ignorance
There is a young guy at work and he apparently is a Subaru guy. Well, someone mentions cars and I tell about my Cobalt SS/TC. I say its fast, but its the handling that is the real standout point. He kind of smiles that superior smile, apparently he doesn't think any FWD car can handle well. .92 on the skidpad is just "numbers".
The funniest part is, he drives a 02 Impreza RS. Very proud that its "NA" and has all that torque (165 I believe) and I wonder if he knows that its skidpad number is under .80. He says it handles good though
He must be the happiest guy around with all that ignorance to power his bliss.

I found myself hating on my car today because I was going around a corner flooring it and one tire was squealing. Damn you Chevy for not making LSD standard!
But all the other times, I love my car

I would have never purchased this car new. I wasn't even looking for this car when I found it, a 2008 with 3K miles for 15.8K. I was looking at Fits and Yaris', but they were in the same price range. I did some research, drove the SS, and couldn't believe how cheap it was. The guy who bought it new owned it for 6 months, then lost 5K in equity. I get cars a year old with low miles and reep the depreciation.

Yeah it's fun to say "Yeah and you got beat by 'just a Cobalt', now how does that make you feel?" The hate just means deep down inside they want the car. I've had a couple guys say somethin like "Pretty good for a Chevy"
