Why no window scrapers?

All,

Our cars do not have a peice of rubber abutting the side windows to keep debris from lodging in between the weatherstripping and the window. Every other car on Earth has a rubber window scraper to keep this from happening. Now I have perfectly parallel scratches running down my side windows from rolling down the windows after a dust storm.

I looked at other cobalts and the same deal.

I'm going to take this in as a warranty issue and get it fixed; if they deny me, I will become the biggest thorn in GM's side.

Check out this bulletin for Impala SS:

Document ID# 1866672
2006 Chevrolet Impala
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Subject: Rubbing/Squealing/Grinding Noise When Window/Door Glass Is Raised or Lowered, Scratches in Door Glass (Replace Door Glass Belt Sealing Strip) #06-08-64-033 - (10/12/2006)
Models: 2006-2007 Chevrolet Impala
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Condition
Some customers may comment of a rubbing, squealing or grinding noise when opening or closing the left or right door glass. They may also comment of scratches in the door glass.
Cause
This condition may be cause by dirt accumulating on the lip of the belt sealing strip.
Correction
Replace the door glass outer belt sealing strip with a newly designed outer belt sealing strip . Refer Front Side Door Window Belt Outer Sealing Strip Replacement in SI. If scuffs or scratches are found, it may be necessary to replace the glass as well.
Parts Information
15930908
Right Front Outer Door Glass Belt Sealing Strip
15930909
Left Front Outer Door Glass Belt Sealing Strip

I will get this warrantied!

You'd be in luck if you drove an '06 Impala! Until then, I'm sure any dealer will just laugh at you...

I'm just being realistic...

Anything that goes wrong with a Chevy can probably be found on a recall for another vehicle...doesn't mean it applies to your car...

Yes, I understand that, but this is just one instance of many amongst multiple GM vehicles....google it. Many have taken their cars in for the scratch problem and had it warrantied.

Here's the thing, this started with one person voicing their issue. That person may have not gotten action initially, but the problem was endemic to Impalas, so additional people voiced their issue....it became a bulletin.

I gaurantee you the exterior of your windows will eventually scratch! The design of the exterior weathershipping does not gaurd against debris; this is a design flaw!

my RR window squeals like a lady getting raped. I got a friend of mine to jump up and hit his head on the roof when we were in "the hood" of down town Detroit. Lots of car jackings, 0 regard for the law. He thought someone was trying to get into my car. lol

I knew somebody was goin to say this! This is the weakest sauce, my friend.

GM has acknowledged the problem, we have the same weatherstripping flaw as the above-referenced Impala.

We paid good, hard-earned money for new cars with warranties that in the case of manufacturer defects are enforceable! If you don't get action from service advisor, go to service manager, factory zone rep, gm complaint line, consumer affairs, sue em' in small claims court.

This is a problem that will manifest on all Cobalts, all it takes is a concerted effort by us, the customers, to get a bulletin...
