WTH GM? Getting a little worried!
WTH GM? Getting a little worried!
First off I want to say I LOVE my cobalt SS. I enjoy it every day. I even like it *gasp* more than my previous 04 GTO.
BUT
I had a leak, took it in. And it was the timing cover ok mishaps happen little annoyed but whatever.
Then the tire monitoring system goes out. Well that's shitty ok whatever, get it fixed.
Now the crankshaft seal is leaking oil. This is all within 4500miles on the car!
AGH WHAT NEXT? I JUST WANT MY CAR!

Anytime you're under a GM vehicle it requires an umbrella. My co-worker bought a Camaro SS $42,500 cash and within 2,600 miles the oil cooler was leaking.
GM's TPMS sucks so much dick. I'm glad mine didn't come with it.

my XFE has been in the shop 4 times in the first month. every 4 days exactly. window motor, evap clogged, bad TB connector, bent rim (pot hole at night).
also had it in for:
crank sensor (also resolved extreme hesitation in higher RPMs and bouncing idle/stall).
driver seat cover replaced (10k ago) but needs replaced again. they gave me the hardest time with that, cant wait to fight them this time.
blown strut at 24k.
my car has 31,500 right now after 1yr and 8months

Hey man Im gonna tell you like this when I bought my 07 sc I had engine problems the fuel pump went out and they had my car for a month fixing on it when I first had it. I let them fix it but other things kept breaking down on my car, anywhere from the sunroof to the cat. convertor. My car was in the shop for a total of 41 days within a year and a half. The lemon law in Az says its a lemon if your car is in the shop for 30+ days it qualify as a lemon. So I wanted to keep it because I liked my little cobalt, plus I thought maybe all the problems would go away. Here it is 10' and I still have issues all the time with my car. I will never buy another chevy car again because of the issues and problems with gm's sorry ass service. My advice is get rid of your car or/ and save all your service reciepts.

I have a quick question...
you posted this pic of your *new car* a while back. I noticed the tires looked worn in fact, *hammered* a bit.??? If bought the car like this..you have a *problem*. If you took out a BRAND NEW car and did it yourself..*you have a problem*
The tires look worn? Huh? I bought it 2 months ago or so. Have only made one payment so far. Bought it with 12 miles and currently has 4397. The tires look fine I am a manger of a mechanics shop. I'm not sure where you are seeing worn tires as none are. Unless the pic is playing tricks on you.
And if you mean being hard on the car. Well I bought a sports car. If it can't handle it to be driven as such. Then it shouldn't be marketed as such.
Also I took those pictures before I even broke it in so again I'm not sure what you are talking about.

On the other hand, my Mother's '03 Civic was leaking like a bastard from the oil pan with only 65K on it, so I had to replace the oil pan and crank seal. Also had a bad exhaust leak at the flex pipe. That motor was a real piece of garbage.

Its pretty obvious that the edges of the tires are very chewed up. Looks like some seriously hard cornering too place on those tires.
Actually GM has some of the best gaskets in the industry. While Honda and Toyota are still using cheap paper gaskets on their engines, GM upgraded to reuseable rubber/neoprene and aluminum gaskets around the time the LS series was coming out in 1997. My Dad's 2003 Chevy truck is a work vehicle and the engine and trans are bone dry with 110K miles on them. And by bone dry I mean not even any seepage, bone ******* dry.

As far as gaskets, GM did have a few that were utter failures. Big example was the Lower Intake Manifold gasket on the LA1 3400 SFI V6 engines in the Grand Am. If you had a 1999-2003.5 Grand AM with the LA1, the probability of having it leak was pretty high.
GM revised the intake design later on to address the issue. The plastic intake gaskets, which sagged and disintegrated over time, were replaced with aluminum gaskets with neoprene inserts. When doing this job, I always obtain GM gaskets, because many aftermarket ones such as FelPro still do not use the upgraded design.
Happily most of the sealing surfaces on the Ecotec use engine sealent.. Its a type of light gray RTV but its strong as hell and lasts forever. The only time I see Ecotecs leaking oil from anywhere but the camshaft end cap is when there's an extra hole in the oil pan.
I think thats the picture making the tires appear that way, whether from scrubbing the tire dressing off ( I never use it but they did at the dealership and I wanted it off ). Or from still being wet, because the side of the tires in person are fine. The outsides have no wearing at all. Hence why I was confused with his direction.

Your tires look better than mine at 4500 in fact they look pristine, you run lower psi in the tires the side walls are going to have little blotches on them , I think the type of road material has a lot to do with it too . apparently someone has never owned more than one set of low profile tires before ...
Good luck with the car , I would just trade it in with minimal loss , tell the dealer its a pos and not what it should be , kind of hit or miss with these cars I guess.....
Dude , I have no idea wtf that dude is talking about and I wouldn't pay one bit of attention to it either ....

UHH....'scuse me...I have an SC/TC with *low profile tires*
*PRISTINE*????
Those tires have been>>>HAMMERED my friend.
This car has DEFINITELY seen some *spirited driving*>>>>>
IN THE BREAK IN PERIOD?

I'm looking at the outer edges indicating very hard driving. I know..used to track a club car
The car wasn't drivin hard until about 1500 miles. And I also went on a trip to Louisiana which put about 2000 miles on it. And I don't think that's "spirited" driving.
And I also don't think 12 miles (when I bought it) would be enough to damage the tires.
So I think I am just going to ask you to stay out of the thread. Because you are contributing nothing.
Oh believe me, those 12 miles that were on it, were the hardest ones of it's life. Guys who work at dealerships beat the **** out of fast new cars they get. It's not gonna be there problem so they don't care. You should hear some of the stories I've been told working at a dealership. I've seen a brand new Z06 off our lot go through a set of tires doing burnouts at my dealerships burn out pit at a car show 2 years ago, with less than 10 miles on the car.

Roasting them, and auto Xing leave very different wear patterns on a tire.
Im really not sure what you are talking about. The tires have no wearing on them at all. I think it's the picture throwing you off but I'm not sure. Because I don't see anything in the picture but then again I know what they look in person so I know what I am looking at.

Ok..done. If you want me post a pic of my new tires (same wheel rear passenger) with 2K miles of *spirited driving* on them let me know . I have the pic ready.
BTW, hope you find out what's wrong.
I appreciate you not taking it personally as it wasn't intended that way. I just didn't want to go off course. Probably shouldn't of even of made this thread. But I needed to vent(with good reason).
my car has been in the shop for 4 weeks, they had to order 9 parts to fix it... 3 have arrived, 3 are on back order with a shipping date scheduled, 3 have no time table on when they are to be shipped
think you are pissed? try still paying for a car yet stuck in a shitty ass rental car for the summer
i'm beyond pissed
