ZZP LDK Black Friday

Happy black Friday!! Was hoping that ZZP would have the ZFR on sale but they are still sold out. They did have the LDK long block on sale though. So my LNF has like 60,000 miles on it. It was a factory replacement in 2012 when the car had 30,000 miles. Don't know what they put in but it is another LNF. There isn't anything wrong with the motor but the k04 is ready to go and Ive yet to do the valve cleaning on it. I'm currently installing my F40 (for 3 months now) so the car is all apart and the motor is pretty much ready to fall out if I want it to. Anyway, I purchased a new LDK long block with the 6758 installed on it from ZZP for black Friday for $3100. Seemed like a killer deal with the turbo being about $2000 any day of the week, I'm getting the long block for $1000 all with free shipping. Ive read a bunch of mixed reviews on the LDK with the rods being the biggest issue. I don't think I will see more than 400HP even with the 6758 and no E85. Should the rods hold up ok? I know there was the bad batch from GM supposedly and hoping that has been resolved. I know the right way is to build it up with better pistons and rods but I'm not looking to tear into it. Any suggestions? Anyone else running 400hp on a stock LDK? Should I take a chance and just keep the LNF and hope its not a porus block? Even if I decided to sell the motor and keep the turbo I could get $1000+ for the motor and get back what I have into it. Thanks for the help in advance. Hope everyone had a happy thanksgiving.

Honestly if you want to be easy on the rods, running e47 and lower boost (22-23) to achieve 400 hp would be the best. E helps deaden the shock of combustion and slows it a bit so it's not as violent.

I can’t get E close by me. It’s like a 45min drive to the closest gas station. That would make me crazy to have to go there for gas all the time. It sucks. I know there are a lot of people running stock LDK motors. Just wondering if any one is doing 400 with any problems. I don’t have to install the LDK, but it would be nice to have all new running gear.

I would think as long as you were ramping boost you should be ok.

Was GM still selling bad blocks in 2012? I figured they would have pulled questionable inventory by then. 60k isn't extremely used. There has got to be a way to get the build date of the engine. Find that and then decide.

2012 motors should be ok as the 2010 motors didn't have near as many porosity issues like the 09's had. However they still weren't as strong as the ldk style sand cast blocks that had extra beefing in them.

So as far as I know. The LNF was pretty well done with production by 2011. I May be wrong. I have a service manual that shows how to decode the engine which I think is ridiculous cause is a bar code sticker. I was able to make the numbers out on my LNF enough to tell it is a 2010 motor. Weather or not it’s a porous block is a crap shoot. I’m probably just going to throw in the LDK and keep it around 400 if I can even get that. Maybe if I get ambitious I’ll do pistons and rods. Any chance they can come out the bottom of these engines with the crank removed. If the engine was on a stand?

nope, tried that. pistons must come out the top. my dad didn't believe me when I was disassembling my LNF. boy it was a pita to get the rings lined up so i could slide them out the top...

it's the tq that bends the rods not the power. As long as it's ramped appropriately you'll have no issues.

Yup, the main bearing webbings are in the way pistons must come out the top

Thanks for the replies. So from what I’m seeing they should be able to come out bottom. Once you split the lower case and remove the crank. I really haven’t any experience with this motor to this extent, it just looks like they can with the crank removed and the engine on a stand. Maybe it’s more work than removing the head? I’ll figure out what I want to do when I get the motor. Seems the easiest route is to find a gas station that has E and a good tuner. Just trying to plan ahead if I ever decide to really push power.

they won’t come out the bottom. Only out the top.
