GM Stage 1 & 2 Kits. Getting them?

Just a quick survey here. How many of you will be ordering either stage 1 or 2 from GM, or will be ordering another aftermarket brand, or will simply just leave their cars stock. I am just curious to see how many people will go for these or something else.

This is the Candian retail on the kits.

17801947 Stage I (injectors, re-flash) $802.75
17803229 Stage II (injectors, re-flash, pulley) $1264.75
17803230 upgrades Stage I to stage II (pulley) $499.75

Stage I one uses an ECU re-flash and new injectors to add 31 HP, and 5 lb-ft of torque. It offers a 0.3 sec quarter mile improvement.

Stage II includes an ECU re-flash, new injectors (same as stage I), and a smaller 3" pulley. This gives another 5 HP, and 13 lb-ft of torque. Overall it improves your 0-60MPH time by 0.5 seconds, and your quarter mile time by 0.7 seconds.

almost a full second off? I think I'll be getting it. Along with some other things...

Edit:Wait, hmm, I wonder. I have a 2.9 inch pulley coming in. I wonder if I can just get Stage 1 and buy the belt. Does anyone know yet if the stage one flash is different then stage 2?

Not sure yet whether I am going to get them. I was hoping that they would be cheaper (i.e. $800 for stage II). Stage I seems to be a good value for the power gains. The acceleration improvement from stage II suggests that there is a much wider torque curve with the smaller pulley, also making that stage an attractive upgrade.

If I do it, I will go all out for stage II. Keep the warranty, and max out the performance potential. I'll have to see what it will cost for Stage II with install, then I will decide. I've been thinking about it for the last few days and it is acutally not a bad deal in the end, even if it is like $1400 with install. If the LSJ is staying in the car next year, I think I will be less tempted to order these (there will be plenty of stock SS/SC rolling around in Canada, and we are faster than the Civic Si, Mini Cooper S, and almost as quick as the Neon SRT-4). If the 2.0L Turbo does make it into the car, I may order the staged kit if I haven't by then, or think about possibly trading my car in for a new Turbo Cobalt (Turbalt ). Don't see the 2.0L turbo in the car though. Edmunds is smoking too much dope for reporting that it is being considered for the re-badge job that will be the G4/G5.

I am also going to try and find out how bad the fuel economy will be. Gas is pretty expensive right now, and having poor fuel economy is going to cost me a lot too. The stock LSJ seems to get good mileage if you drive it in a pedestrian manner. The cops in the city are also like the Gestapo, lots of radar traps and photo radar, so stage II would only help me get busted.

It is the same. Stage II includes all the parts in stage I (injectors & the same re-flash). The ECU doesn't need to be reflashed for a smaller pulley that gives more boost.

Remember that you will be full warranty if you just go Stage II! That is a pretty attractive sale pitch, even if it is more than stage I and an aftermarket pulley.

I'm gonna wait and see how much gas it gobbles first. (plus I won't have the money probably til summer) I do 95% in-town driving so I have to see what happens. Hopefully Stage 1 will fix the CEL with a CAI, then I can do that too! I love the sound of the S/C!

Ya, I am there right with you. I think I am going to sit on it for a while. The car is pretty fast already, and has decent fuel economy. I can't really use the extra power on the street, so I wonder if I should order any of them. Sure it will go faster, but I am not racing, so it will just eat up gas. I'll probably wan't the GMPP exhaust too if I get stage II! I don't really want to spend money on that because I doubt it does much compared to the stock exhaust.

Anyhow, It has been snowing all week, so I am deep into winter here! The less power the car has now, the better! I'll decide here when spring comes and the Pirellis get put back on.

I feel like I may be the only person on here staying stock for now!

Stage 1 here with 2.8" pulley and a 3" idler pulley to go along with my intake and exhaust. Then i'm done with the car for go fast parts.

Next step after that: Lowering Springs, Anti Roll Kit from Eibach, Strut bar, Stickier tires

What is up with the GMPP exhaust? I hear it is a 2.25" pipe. The 2.4L from what I gather has this stock, and the 2.0L runs a 2.5". Someone also said that the Grand-Am Cup guys ran 3" last year, but changed to a 2.5" on their cars this year. So that makes it soud like the stock 2.5" is the best for the 2.0L already!

Am I right, or does someone else have an explanation for this. I don't want to pay $1000 for a pipe that isn't going to give any power.

J Rod. You still don't have CODE!!! Pullies are cheap. The millions GM spent on programing is for a reason.
