09 SS Overheating
I was heading to work today and with my AC on it felt like the AC stopped blowing cold and my car started heating up the Temp went up to 260 and i shut it off. The fan is working I let it cool down to 180 and started it to drive home and the temp was going up around 230 again when I got home. What could it be?

I'm going to try changing the Thermostat and hope that fixes it. the Crazy thing is I've been looking at new cars and was planning on trading it in this week or next week.

I changed the Thermostat with no luck. It's still heating up. I really don't want to put anymore money into it. It's bad enough the dealer only wants to give me $3,000 on a trade in I can't see putting $500 into fixing it. Maybe I would be better off parting it out.

It was alittle bite low but nothing crazy. Maybe 1/4 of a gallon of antifreeze and now it seems like what I put in it after doing the thermostat it pretty much spit out of the overflow tank. I'm not seeing any water in the oil or really anything on the ground except what looks like is coming from the overflow tank from bubbling back.

The shop I took my car to said it didn't jump timing but the chain needs to be replaced and said the head gasket is blown. They said around $1500-1800 to fix it. sounds like alot of money to me. Do you think I'm better off parting it out or selling it as is?

ya but there is 2 chains one is you timing chain and the other is your balance shaft chain which also controls your water pump its not a hard job to do if you have worked on vehicles before the kit is around 350$ the head gaskets never go on these cars unless you let it overheat extremely take it to another shop to make sure . and if it is the head gasket it is around 500 in parts for everything needed including timing set and should only be 5 hours labour at the most but thats me i dont know how long these mechanics take to do things lol.
