109 Octane?

Is it safe to run unleaded 109 octane in the lnf? I messed up the 3-4 nls at the track and the motor over revved to 8K then shut down completely. It'll crank but won't start at all. If I remember I got the p0300 301 302 304 codes

Until we get it towed to the dealership on the 6th my dad so far thinks I used too high of an octane and could have messed up the injectors or something that relates to the fueling.

So, you were using 109 octane at the time it happened? All of those codes are misfire codes. P0300 is a general misfire, and 301,302,303,304 are cylinder specific for cylinder 1,2,3,&4. Good luck getting the dealer to touch anything, I don't forsee it happening.

I am going to guess you messed something up in the valvetrain, much like Marin did when he shattered a lifter.

when you say messed up the 3-4 shift, do you happen to mean you made a 3-2 shift by accident? and unless you're tuned for 109, it only hinders performance. Are you sure it was unleaded? most fuels over 100 octane are leaded race gas

The only way to get the car to spin that high is if you went 3-2

You can **** there all day and bounce it off the rev limiter and it will not rev higher than the limiter.

Period.

You fucked something up serious. Good luck trying to get the dealership to sponsor your race dream

That is not good at all. Misfires codes galore and wont start now. 8K RPMs did you miss 4th and get 2nd at 102 mph?

Just take the numbers off your car before you bring it to the dealership.

Well it's a good thing that he works for the dealership.

Actually it will spin past the limiter if you do something like the 3-2 shift. THe computer will still be cutting the spark and fuel and all for the rev limit, but unless the wheels are practically locking in the front, the rotation of the wheels through the tranny in 2nd gear at 100+ will spin the components in the motor higher than what the rev limiter is set at. Basic Physics.

And yes you can sit at a stop or clutch in and bounce the rev and it won't go any higher and shouldn't damage anything, unless you're spraying Nitrous. Even spinning the motor way to high past 8k could cause spark knock and cause misfire even with the 109, at least my Buick would if I let it go too high.

The fuel shouldn't matter of skrew anything at all up if it was unleaded. It's an unrelated issue.

Yeah I'm thinking something broke or was damaged. There's lots of possibilities. Hell IDK maybe even the timing chain jumped.

Either way... I'm thinking the dealer is going to call it abuse (track use or street use, either way) and it won't be covered. But it's worth a shot.

Those codes are all severe misfires on every single cylinder...I'm not sure it would necessarily be just the octane level..I think you have bigger problems. Lifters, valves, springs, etc...something let go for the engine to misfire that badly including uncontrollable revs...dear god not another one down

I'm sorry you feel that way but 99.9% of dealership employees abuse the warranty system

David, where you running 109? i thought you had pump gas in...

the different octane won't make a difference in the injectors themselves. You weren't tuned to 109, so it really won't make the car different, except it won't pull timing as much because it would resist detonation better.

unless the car is that reactive, which i doubt, it would run off its previous curves and reactions for 91. maybe if you ran a tank or 2 or 109, it might start adapting to that level of octane. but i doubt it.
