3rd gear wont engage

Ok so I got myself the hyper single about 3 weeks ago, and I just reached the 1000 mile mark on the new clutch this past saturday. Last night was the first time I got on it since I got the hyper single installed. I did two races with a Mach 1 and the a race with a Trans Am, well when I raced the Trans Am I NLS into third and after I left off the clutch it did nothing but rev. All my other gears will engage except for third. Does anyone know what went wrong or anything?

Is there just nothing there? Do you get a grind or any other response while trying to go into gear? Pull the cup holder and see if maybe a shift cable came out of its holder

my guess is broken shifter linkage. 3rd gear is the most common too.

Alright, thanks guys I'll look at the shift linkage later tonight when I get off, but I already replaced the clutch rod when I got the new clutch put in. Also I don't get any type of noise or anything when I do try to put it in gear.

You need the ZZP adjustable clutch rod to get 3rd under load. I had the same issue with my SPEC clutch. I had to remove the underhood fusebox to get my hands & arm in there to remove the clutch cyl from the firewall to change the rod. The cyl turns clockwise facing the firewall to unlock it. It's a bitch, might have been easier to do with the tranny out from underneath.

It works fine now BTW.

I see you replaced the clutch rod, if it's an adjustable one, you need to lengthen it. Mine's about 1/4" longer than stock.

Doesnt sound like the clutch rod. Why would it only do this to third? Its gotta be shift cable related.

Let us know what you find

by looking at your mod list in ur sig, i would strongly suggest not using NLS.... especially if ur pushing up and way over stock power like i am... i found out the hard way lol, at hte time, iwas on my low tune, 20psi and i NLS's into 4th and kaboom went 4th gear. that NLS **** is overrated. and if ya still think its ok to do it, talk to the higher ups on here.... keep it up and ur gona end up like me lol, 4k for a new tranny cuz 4th turned into a frag grenade... probly didnt help the situation any that i have a CM stage 4 clutch, but still.. stay away from NLS..

Well I checked the linkage and everything seems to be ok, i really didn't see anything wrong, till I walked around the back of the car....and to a surprise I saw I was leaking something. Well, I'm leaking tranny fluid and when I got popped the hood and looked underneath the car to see when where it was coming from, it looks like its leaking from between the tranny and the motor. So, I'm gonna have it towed up to the dealership tomorrow and have them look at it.

If the fluid is clear/light yellow it's hyd clutch/brake fluid. If it's reddish purple, most likely trans. They slopped hyd fluid in my bellhousing doing the clutch and it seeped for a week or so between the trans and bellhousing.

I mean i paid near a grand for my clutch r and r, and that INCLUDES taking the tranny out. You should have been able to find a USED G85 for 500-1000 bucks... Your dealership must have a nasty cocaine habit

Alright, so I was able to get ahold of the dealership today, and they started on tearing things apart and well they sent me a couple of pictures of what they found before taking the tranny off and here are the pictures sorry for the crappy cell phone pictures

And now I'm trying to figure out how in the hell i did that!

but in the second picture you look to toward the left of the picture you can see there is a stress crack.

So I'm waitin for by the end of this week to see if there was any other damages done.

Yeah, no kidding. No more NLS for me either. I would be looking for a used one but luckily I know the guy that is working on it and he's gonna try and get it done under warranty.

Sorry havent been able to update here lately been busy with work, but i actually got it covered all under warranty, they got a whole new tranny for me, but its my last one from what the tech told me, but basically what had happen was that third was completely gone. The tech was very cool about trying to get it covered just even with the everything I have done, but he said he usually doesnt mind doing it cause either way he would be getting paid for it lol

nice to hear they didnt screw ya. Condsider this as a net 4000 dollars in your pocket.... did they do your clutch install? There is an important lesson to learn here. dont bang gears w/ NLS on a car with a beefier clutch and torque managagement disabled. But seeing as we sport a longer drive ratio, as long as we see traction, the gear teeth are seeing higher sheer forces.

ive got maybe 1100 miles on the hypersingle, and ive developed a technique where you lift maybe 75% and slip the clutch a tad into the next gear, then go WOT again. pretty much negates the longer spool time from the light flywheel. It works kinda nice because its easier on the tranny, and wheelspin is much lighter than NLS into 2nd for me.

I pretty much love the **** out of this clutch, its become a bit lighter, chatters less, and ive become damn good at rev matching/ heel toeing. It is too rough of engagment for Sallies, and couldnt make a production car because of the coast down noise, but man it is GOOOD
