AEM CAI flutter?

Do you guys have the same issue on the cold startup? Is there a way to tune for it?

listen to the vid you can here it flutter like crazy. it starts at :38 sec

I put the stock elbow back on for now.

AEM is aware of the problem and is sending me a revised elbow in a couple weeks

Nope I have tried everything I can think of to stop it to no avail. Tried cat heating cam changes, Timing changes on cold starts, different less restrictive filter. It is frustrating because the fact is my car is faster with the AEM on but driveability is crap with that silicone elbow on there. As soon as you remove the elbow the flutter stops but the stock elbow does not flow as well as the AEM elbow. I might see if I can get a shop to bend a replica of the AEM slicone elbow out of 3" exhaust tubing. It would have to get reduced down to ~2.5" at the turbo and flared to 3.25" at the AEM aluminum tube. I have already hacked mine up I might try cutting it and moving the MAF to the top and cut off the other bend. Might help make the airflow over the MAF less turbulent.

Does it flutter with the elbow and the stock air box?

Yes

The elbow is the problem. I have the aem tube goin to the stock elbow and it's fine.

I'm not to far from AEM I'll contact them next week with the vid.

You should hear mine with the AEM on there. Mine is worse than that. It almost chokes off sometimes. As soon as you remove the silicone piece and put the stock plastic intake tube on the surging stops completely.

David, swing my AEM and see what they can do. I'm sure they did testing, wonder how they didn't catch it...

I will next week.

I don't think they test it in colder weather that's why.

I bet whoever tested the intake for them in the first place never reported it to AEM as an issue because they did not know how to recognize compressor choke/surge and that it is bad news for the turbo. They are redesigning the intake but apparently only the aluminum part which is not the biggest issue with the intakes design IMHO.

Yep, that was the biggest complaint I had too, plus a nasty surge coming out of DFCO at light throttle.

Intake was fairly easy to tune for the MAF, a lot simpler than the Hahn is to tune, but the Hahn drivability is perfect once dialed in. No surge or flutter.

It's the AEM elbow try putting the stock elbow on but leave the tube and see if it makes a difference
