AEM Dryflow filter VS K&N filter
AEM Dryflow filter VS K&N filter
I have a HAHN Cold Air intake for my Cobalt ss/tc (work grate!).
The only thing that has bothered me is the K&N filter. I have never had a problem, but in the back of my head I always wonder if the oiled filter could skew the MAF reading a little.
Have anyone tried the AEM dryflow filter? (not the AEM Cold Air Intake I had it it sucks)
If you have used the AEM dryflow filter, does it give more accurate MAF readings than K&N?
Is it more idiot proof than oiling a K&N?

It's idiot proof, but doesn't flow as well.
A properly oiled K&N flows well & from my 50k mile (5k on the oil) used oil analysis filters very well also.
If you over oil it, the maf readings will be affected until you clean the oil mist off of the MAF sensor.

dude that's awesome. I never knew I could clean the MAF. I thought I couldn't touch the maf, and if I did I would damage it. So, do I just wipe off the maf with a rag, or do I use soap and water?

Take it from another *RONN* ( Yep I'm RONN..really..check it out)..use MAF cleaner:
CRC Industries 05110 Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner
WTF does this have to do with HP and DP???
We're taking about CLEANING THE MAF here and>>>>drum roll>>>
NOT USING SOAP AND WATER TO CLEAN IT
..nothing more.
Hey thanks for the info guys. I am going to clean my MAF today. OHHHH FYI dont try to cut the threads on t-bolt clamps, they will blow off when you get over 5psi boost. Haha yeah I learn things the hard way.

An cool trick I learnt from old school racers - "Dry bucket" was to take an old 2.5-3 gal bucket with the lid, paint it all black - lid and bucket, drill a few holes [5-10] on the side, insert a few rods/sticks in the hole you made to make a platform, now if you have something that is wet/ over-oiled and its hot & sunny outside, put the item inside the bucket and the heat will bake off the item until it's dry.. i've use my 5 gal bucket to bake off excess oil from air filters, oil tray, wet shop rags, etc..
FYI: to gauge how much oil is on the K&N filter, the filter element should look pink - not dark red or red, Dark red - too much oil, Red - oil needs to be dry, Light red - not enough oil, Pink - perfect.
