Anyone have the lowdown on turbochargers.com

Someone had posted on HHRSS.net a link to face book, http://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/showthread.php?t=26552 and the turbochargers.com turbo upgrade for the LNF coming out, but it was posted 1 month ago. Anyone have the inside track on the dyno results, release date and price?

"Evo III TD05H-16G, fitted to the OEM KO4 Turbine Housing for stock like fitment."

Well it looks like it's about 10% bigger so look for 10-20% more power.

It's in the stock housing so there is only so much you can do.

Tell that to the majority of Evo and DSM owners that have been rocking these for years. Thats more than enough for most street built cars. If the turbo is a true bolt on and cost around what a current Evo 3 16g cost it will be very popular upgrade. I'd rather have this then pay $800+ for a wheel upgrade.

Hi guys.. The solstice is mine.

As I posted on SolsticeForum.com, I got fired at the beginning of October, and I've got the turbo here. I have it off the car currently, but am planning on putting it back on as soon as I can fabricate a proper charge pipe and get a blow off valve installed..

I am planning to redo my stock dyno on my new dynojet and then install the turbo and get solid before and after numbers.

The Evo3 16g can support 350+ whp, which is about all you'd expect out of a bolt on..

As for pricing, I would expect them to charge a mint to reproduce, and you'd have to supply a turbine housing. At the time I left the company, we had not found a supplier for the turbine housings, although it looks like you can find the turbos on ebay fairly regularly for ~150-250 bucks.

The process is extremely labor intensive, and I would suspect that current management is not interested in marketing a product to you guys. Most likely, they'd rather skin a goat once instead of shearing it many times.

I had the turbo on for a while, with a make shift charge pipe, and the car was considerably faster on 15-16psi than the stocker is at 22.. that's with a piggy rich street tune.

Cool, glad you're here Nester. I was gonna PM you on the solstice board so you could come speak up here if you wanted. Wish it would have worked out, sounds decently promising.

Take it from an long time DSM'er - Suffice it to say turbochargers.com has a reputation in the DSM community. Well at least any of us who've been around long enough to know anyway

Which is to say: not a good one.

Also, not sure a 16g is worth all the wrench time on these cars, from a performance stand point? Could be a great option if you kill your KKK/BW unit though. Its my experience that MHI turbos are quite durable (just look at the thrust comparisons and the k04's wienie shaft) and a smog goon would be hard pressed to see the change if done right. I could see it performing better as you said nester, but the Cobalt is a bitch to dig the turbo out.

Either way it sounds like a dead duck.

I remember switching from an evoIII big16 -> FP Green. Hell of a lot more top end on the Green, but getting sideways around corners @ 22-24psi AWD was a lot more "fun".
