Autowerks intercooler

Who has this? The street version, I like the size and the fact that it has a garret core. Also liking the special coating too. Just want to know how fitment is.

Matty O, Steddy 2112, rallycobalt (I think) and Revolution in Canada have them. I think its the best overall product fit performance and price .

I'm curious how this thing hangs, like how low it hangs. Thats the thing I really don't like about the ZZP intercooler, that it hangs below the lip. I've NEVER seen a picture of how low the werks intercooler hangs. It's one I've always kept in consideration for a future upgrade, it looks to be very well made.

Yeah, I hear ya. Im not even worried about that though, im deciding between the werks and zzp. Ive had the car for almost 3 years now and ive never bottomed out. Just gotta be cautious. My main concern is the fitment because ive heard problems with the mpx.

I've got the Werks intercooler, but unfortunately I have a Kappa so I can't help you with fit on a Cobalt. I can tell you that the Werks intercooler is a work of art, it's VERY well built and the welds are damn near perfect. I can also tell you that Dave at Werks is a super nice, honest guy and great to deal with.

I second what gmtech stated.

I also have a kappa, and will be using the Werks Race IC w/ black thermal coating.

Hopefully tomorrow mine should arrive via UPS, and i will be installing. I will post pics. From my research the heat coating really only benefits those who auto cross. Mind you this is from my research. I was going to get it just so it looked black lmao, but i have decided to rattle can it. Before all you guys get on my case about painting a IC, there is minimal loss in heat transfer that i will not notice. Gonna use VHT black.

Here we go again. How many times does it take for someone like Matt or Ryan from ZZP to convince ppl like you that they are perfectly fine. I have my ZZP Intercooler since Jan 11' and have not even bottom the intercooler once even with CM Springs. I've bottom my front lip a couple of times with the Intercooler and don't have a single scratch on the bottom of the intercooler. You worry over nothing, they are perfectly well made and never caused me any issues. Stop worrying about how ZZP Intercooler hangs low and buy yourself a damn intercooler.

It's most definitely smaller than ZZP's (not necessarily a bad thing mind you) and judging from the pictures it hangs just as low, if not lower.

Yeah my ZZP is flush with the bottom lip of the bumper so the pic there is a pretty accurate representation then.

ZZP had the best mounting of any of the intercoolers. With fitament and performance being the same for most, that's what sold me on the ZZP. Here's how much it hangs down:

I've never scraped. I'm on stock suspension, though.

I like my Werkes

You're getting a better core with the Werkes, imo the ZZP one is gargatahuge for the stocker but the price is pretty good

If you care, get the werkes, if you just want something to replace the stocker get the ZZP

Oh it was all interceptor stough but cruising right about 5+ over ambient, and like a 20 degree drop in IAT2's in a little 5lb, 15 second pull.

Here's a decently long 3rd-4th gear pull, and a pic of how low it sits on my front bumper. In my 5th chart down you can see all of my air temps as a reference in the graph.

ait2 is 25* above ambient, and 14* above ait1 by the end of the run.

I'd be curious to view a 3rd-4th gear log of the werk IC just as a comparison.

Again, I'm not claiming the ZZP IC to be better, nor am I claiming that there isn't more efficient IC's out there, but I do like it none the less.

edit: I thought that i would also add that my ait2's were cooler than the iat1's up until 5200rpm in 3rd

Just driving around I don't see temps above 10* over ambient....even if traffic but they usually stick to 5-6*. Ill get some logs up when I get my hp tuner's up.

Yeah definitely post one up man. If you can get a solid 3rd-4th gear pull up to 6k that would give some good numbers to compare my logs against. Just for the **** of it I posted another screen shot of a log I just recorded tonight of me just cruising around.

My iat2's are only 3* above amb while cruising, not that cruising temps really matter all that much. I'm really just trying to compare against your cruising numbers at the moment.

So just out of curiosity, have you ever seen iat2 temps at or below ambient with the werks IC? I've personally never logged anything right at ambient with this IC yet, but someone had posted not to long ago that they actually logged below ambient with the Treadstone TR12 IC. Granted that thing is a freakin MONSTER, but I'm still trying to wrap my head around how he logged below ambient without any sort of sprayer. He's a reputable source mind you, so I don't think he was BSing me.
